What to do if your 7-month-old baby has a stuffy and runny nose

We all know that children's resistance is relatively weak. If we are not careful, they will catch a cold and have symptoms of nasal congestion and runny nose. It is very uncomfortable for parents to see this. I just want to get it done as quickly as possible so that my child can get better sooner and suffer less. So what should you do if your 7-month-old baby has a stuffy and runny nose? Let me introduce it to you below. I hope you will understand seven methods to solve it.

Runny nose and nasal congestion are the most common symptoms at the beginning of a cold. In this case, if the cold is not serious and there is no fever, only sneezing and runny nose, it can be treated with hot compresses. Apply a wrung-out hot towel to the area from the baby's nose to mouth. The baby will feel comfortable after the nasal mucosa is moistened. When he has a stuffy nose, let him drink warm soup or hot milk, and his nose will be unblocked after a while. Here are seven tips to easily solve your baby's cold and stuffy nose problem:

1. Clean nasal secretions: You can use a soft cotton swab to gently roll out the nasal secretions. If the secretions are too hard, you can drop a little breast milk or clean water into it to soften it before rolling it out.

2. To reduce nasal mucosal congestion and edema: Put 0.5% furazolidone ephedrine nasal drops on a cotton swab, then insert it into one nostril and gently rotate it for a few weeks. After staying for a few seconds, remove it and then do it in the other nostril, three times a day.

3. Relieve exterior symptoms and open up the orifices: squeeze about 50-100 ml of breast milk into a small bowl, take 1-2 scallions (with roots), wash them and put them into the milk, steam them in water for 5-10 minutes (you can smell the onion fragrance), take them out and let them cool, then feed them to the baby with a spoon. It has the effect of resolving exterior symptoms and opening up the orifices to treat colds and nasal congestion.

4. Side-lying massage method: If the right side of the nose is blocked, lie on the left side, and press the Yingxiang points in the nasolabial groove on both sides of the nose with both hands, several times a day, 10 times each time, which can clear the blocked nasal cavity. If the left side of the nose is blocked, lie on the right side. This way, the child will not have difficulty breathing when feeding.

5. Decoction and fumigation method: chop three or four onions and boil them into a soup. Inhale the hot steam through your nose, or boil vinegar and inhale the vinegar vapor. Both methods have better therapeutic effects.

6. Filling method: Stuff cotton wool into the nostrils, or cut a garlic clove into a cylinder slightly smaller than the nostrils, wrap it with a thin layer of cotton or gauze and stuff it into the nostrils. The effect is also good.

7. Position change method: When a baby has a stuffy nose, he often cries non-stop. At this time, you can hold the baby upright and he will soon fall asleep peacefully.

If nasal congestion seriously affects sleep, wash your baby's feet with hot water to help relieve nasal mucosal congestion. It can relieve nasal congestion and regulate the excitement and inhibition of the cerebral cortex, thereby promoting sleep. You can also wipe his nose with a towel and then drop 1-2 drops of cooling oil or mint water on the pillow. His nose will feel more comfortable when he sleeps. If your baby is less than 3 months old and shows symptoms of a cold, you should take him to the doctor immediately. For older babies, you should take them to the hospital immediately if any of the following conditions occur: a cold lasts more than 5 days; a body temperature exceeds 39°C; the baby has ear pain; difficulty breathing; a persistent cough; or a runny, yellow-green, sticky nasal discharge.

The above seven methods can quickly relieve nasal congestion and runny nose in 7-month-old babies. These methods will not cause many side effects on the child's body, which is much better than those drugs for treating colds. However, if you have a stuffy and runny nose for a long time, you should go to a regular hospital for treatment. You cannot delay it for a moment, otherwise the condition will become more serious.
