Why does a two-month-old baby spit up milk? what to do?

Where does the baby's name come from? Is it related to the fact that the baby is the treasure of the family? But babies are so fragile and their resistance is so poor, it is very likely that the baby will get sick because the parents ignore some small details. But the baby can’t speak when he is sick, so what should we do? He can only show it through some external behaviors. So why does a baby who is more than two months old spit up milk?

Newborns are prone to spitting up because their stomachs and throats are not yet fully developed. The stomach of a newborn baby, viewed from the front, is lying horizontally, in an unstable state, and the cardia (the entrance to the stomach) is relatively loose. That is to say, when adults eat, after food enters the stomach, the cardia will contract to prevent food from flowing back into the esophagus; but because the cardia of infants' stomach cannot contract well, the milk that enters the stomach can flow back into the esophagus more easily. In addition, compared with adults, the larynx of newborns is higher, and their way of sucking the nipple is clumsy, which makes it easy for air to be inhaled into the stomach along with the milk when feeding. Therefore, when the child burps or shakes his body, the milk he eats is more likely to be spit out.

How to effectively prevent your baby from spitting up milk

1. Adopt a suitable breastfeeding posture: try to hold the baby when feeding, so that the baby's body is tilted at about 45 degrees, and the milk in the stomach will naturally flow into the small intestine. This will reduce the chance of vomiting compared to feeding while lying down.

2. Be sure to let the baby burp after feeding: hold the baby upright against your shoulder, pat the baby's back gently, let him burp out the air inhaled into the stomach while sucking milk, then put the baby on the bed, this way it will be less likely to spit up milk.

3. It is not advisable to let the baby lie on his back immediately after feeding. Instead, he should lie on his side for a while and then change to lying on his back.

4. The amount of milk should not be too much and the intervals between feedings should not be too close.

After the baby spit up milk, if there are no other abnormalities, there is generally no need to worry about it. It will gradually get better and will not affect the baby's growth and development. The milk that the baby vomits may be in the shape of tofu dregs. This is the result of the reaction between milk and stomach acid. It is normal and there is no need to worry. However, if the baby vomits frequently and vomits yellow-green or coffee-colored liquid, or is accompanied by symptoms such as fever and diarrhea, you should go to the hospital for examination in time.

Why does my two-month-old baby spit up milk? What should I do? I wonder if parents have more understanding about this now. In fact, baby’s spitting up is not entirely due to illness. Parents should not worry too much. It may also be caused by minor problems such as incorrect feeding methods. In any case, it will not be wrong for parents to pay more attention to the baby’s condition.
