Why does a two-year-old baby cry at night?

I have always believed that it is normal for babies to cry and make a fuss, and that it is just a way for them to vent. But a few days ago, the doctor told me that a two-year-old baby who cries at night may be suffering from a sleep disorder, which may be pathological or psychological. So what is going on with a two-year-old baby crying at night? Let us explain it below.

Children's sleep disorders are a common mental health problem in children. Children have restless sleep, are easily startled, suffer from insomnia, or suddenly scream, or sit up from the bed and cry and make noise during sleep, and are nervous and fearful. Children with severe sleep disorders may get out of bed and walk around. Some children can be awakened and recall what just happened after waking up, while some children cannot be awakened and cannot recall the entire process of what just happened.

If you suddenly wake up after falling asleep, become panic-stricken, and have a painful expression, often accompanied by crying, shortness of breath, sweating and other symptoms, it is called a night terror. It usually occurs about 2 hours after falling asleep, and the patient cannot recall the incident after waking up.

If a child is awakened by a nightmare during sleep and is in a state of extreme tension and anxiety, he or she may actively recall the contents of the dream. In the dream, the child may be teased by demons and monsters, or chased by bad guys or wild beasts, or his or her relatives may be on the verge of suffering. This is called a nightmare and often occurs in the second half of the night. It is common in preschool children.

If you suddenly open your eyes during sleep, sit up and stare, get out of bed and walk around, and cannot recall anything after waking up, it is called nocturnal wandering, which usually occurs within 2 hours after sleep. It is more common in children aged 5 to 12 years.

These sleep disorders are all psychological development problems and should not be mistaken for epilepsy. If the above phenomena occur during sleep and you cannot recall them afterwards, the attacks occur frequently, and the forms of attacks are stereotyped, you should go to the hospital for medical treatment and have an EEG test if necessary.

Sleep has a protective effect on the cerebral cortex of children. Children's brain cells are more easily fatigued than adults, and they need longer sleep to compensate for this loss. Therefore, children with sleep disorders should be guaranteed sufficient and high-quality sleep.

The above are the reasons why two-year-old babies cry at night. After my introduction, I believe everyone has a detailed understanding of the symptoms of this disease. If your baby is exactly two years old and also has the above symptoms, then it is very likely that he has a children's sleep disorder and needs to go to the hospital for examination and diagnosis.
