Infant jaundice index and precautions

Infant jaundice index and precautions

Nowadays, the incidence rate of newborns is getting higher and higher. Recently, newborn diseases have begun to wreak havoc. This disease causes our children's bodies to suffer great pain and torture. For this reason, many parents are worried. They take their children to seek medical treatment everywhere, but their children's diseases rarely improve. Moreover, over time, this disease will also lead to other diseases. The infant jaundice index is an indicator to measure the health status of our newborns. Let us learn about the relevant content of the infant jaundice index.

The jaundice index (serum bilirubin value) <17.1umol is within the normal range

Treatment:

1. Etiological treatment

The cause of pathological jaundice should be clarified first and then eliminated in a targeted manner.

2. Drug treatment

(1) Enzyme inducers: 4-8 mg/kg of phenobarbital per day. Side effects include drowsiness and slow sucking.

(2) Glucocorticoids: Prednisone 1-2 mg/kg per day or dexamethasone 0.3-0.5 mg/kg per day can be used, but they should be used with caution depending on the cause of jaundice.

3. Phototherapy

Phototherapy can be used for any elevated indirect bilirubin caused by various reasons. It is generally used when the total serum bilirubin reaches 205.2-256.5 μmol/L (12-15 mg/dl) or above. If maternal-fetal blood type incompatibility has been confirmed, phototherapy can be used once jaundice appears.

When using phototherapy, be careful:

① The temperature of the phototherapy box should be maintained at around 30°C and the humidity at 60%.

② The baby should be naked, with black paper to protect the eyes and cover the testicles. Exposure should continue except for feeding and nursing operations.

③ Regularly measure its function with a blue light radiation meter. The most effective spectral wavelength is blue light between 427 and 475 nm. The light source is 50cm away from the baby, and the total wattage is 160~320W. The side effects of phototherapy include fever, diarrhea, rash, riboflavin deficiency, thrombocytopenia, bronze syndrome, etc., which can recover on their own after stopping phototherapy.

The above content introduces us to the infant jaundice index. Through the above methods, we can have a deeper understanding of our infant jaundice index. When our children have related conditions, we can provide timely and effective treatment. At the same time, it can also save our parents from troubles and allow more people to live a healthier and happier life.
