Why is the baby's skin red?

Why is the baby's skin red?

When we see a little life appear beside us, we will feel more of a joy. Every newborn baby will have healthy and rosy skin. Maybe you will also have some longer lanugo on the baby's body. Don't worry, these will gradually fall off as the baby grows up. As the babies grow, their skin will gradually improve and become very clear, making people want to kiss it.

The skin of a healthy full-term newborn is rosy and smooth, with a little vernix caseosa on the skin surface, a little fetal hair on the shoulders and back, and plump fat under the skin. Some babies even have rough skin, even peeling, and cracking in the wrinkles in the first few days after birth. This is because the baby's skin has been soaked in amniotic fluid for a long time and becomes dry after birth. Before it falls off, it looks very rough. But it will become smooth after a few days.

When a premature baby is just born, the skin looks very thin and tender, like solidified fat, transparent and red in color; the skin is shiny and may have edema; there is a lot of vernix caseosa and fetal hair on the skin surface; the subcutaneous fat is thin and there may be more vernix caseosa, like the cream on the cream cake we often eat. Vernix caseosa looks sticky and is formed by sebum secreted by sebaceous glands and shed epidermal cells. It has the functions of protecting the skin, preventing infection and keeping warm. It is gradually absorbed by the skin after birth. Generally, do not intentionally wash or wipe it off with water, as this may weaken the protective and warming function of the vernix caseosa on the skin, and it can easily damage the skin or even induce infection. However, if the vernix caseosa is thicker behind the ears, under the armpits or in other wrinkles, you can gently wipe it off 6 hours after birth with boiled and cooled sesame oil, soybean oil or other vegetable oil, or a baby skin cleansing cream specifically for skin care.

As the baby grows up, she will show her beautiful side. Her fair and rosy appearance makes people love her. However, there are some things that deserve people's attention. If there are any abnormal phenomena in the baby's body, parents still need to go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time to avoid harming the baby's health.
