What should I do if my baby has enlarged ventricles?

Some mothers will find that their babies have enlarged cerebral ventricles. At this time, mothers will be very worried that their children will have hydrocephalus. We also know that hydrocephalus will seriously affect the child's intelligence. Therefore, mothers' worries are understandable. However, since the baby's brain has not yet fully developed, this situation is normal. Next, the editor will talk to you about what to do if the baby's cerebral ventricle is enlarged.

The so-called ventriculomegaly is caused by the accumulation of fluid in other tissues of the ventricles, which also exists under normal circumstances. Normally, the size of the fetal lateral ventricle should be less than 1 cm. 1 to 1.5 cm is considered mild, and more than 1.5 cm is considered abnormal.

There is no treatment or intervention during pregnancy, so it is best to arrange a chromosome test now to determine whether the baby's chromosomes are abnormal.

In addition, close ultrasound reexamination is needed. If the width continues to increase by more than 1.5 centimeters, it indicates hydrocephalus. If there is too much hydrocephalus, it will compress the brain tissue, affecting its development, and may have a certain impact on intelligence and other aspects. Hydrocephalus can be treated surgically, but there are many postoperative complications. If hydrocephalus is confirmed, termination of pregnancy may be considered. If there is no further widening or the width of the lateral ventricle decreases to less than one centimeter during observation and reexamination, the pregnancy can continue.

At the same time, it should be considered that the symptoms are caused by the incomplete development of the fetal cerebral ducts. Generally, after the cerebral ducts are fully developed, they can gradually return to normal. There is no need to worry. You should pay attention to observation and eat a reasonable diet, eat more nutritious foods, and strengthen nutrition.

In fact, since the baby's organs are not yet fully developed, it is normal for the ventricles to widen sometimes, so girls don't need to worry too much. I hope that the editor’s sharing on what to do about infant ventriculomegaly will be of great help to all the girls. I also hope that every baby can grow up healthy.
