Newborn vomits yellow-green liquid

Newborn vomits yellow-green liquid

If a newborn vomits yellow-green liquid, it is considered that the child inhaled amniotic fluid during the birth process, which may cause swallowing syndrome. If the child's vomiting is not serious, you should pay attention to conditioning. If it is serious, you should check and treat it in time. After a child is born, his physical constitution is relatively poor, so good care is very important at this time. Let’s take a look at this aspect.

Newborn vomits yellow-green liquid

If a newborn vomits yellow liquid after birth, it is considered to be neonatal swallowing syndrome caused by inhalation of amniotic fluid. If the baby vomits only a few times, you can observe it first and pay attention to feeding; if the baby vomits too many times, it is recommended to go to the neonatal department for further examination and treatment.

How to treat vomiting in newborns

Neonatal vomiting can be divided into physiological and pathological. To treat this disease, it is necessary to find out the cause, give different treatments according to different causes, and differentiate the symptoms and seek the root cause.

The diagnosis must be closely combined with the medical history, the mother's pregnancy and delivery history, feeding history, careful physical examination and necessary auxiliary examinations, as well as close observation of vomiting, and comprehensive analysis to reach a clear diagnosis. Targeted treatment was then initiated.

1. Improve feeding methods: Do not give too much milk each time, keep the temperature moderate, and make sure the hole in the nipple is not too large to prevent the baby from eating too quickly. Avoid feeding your baby when he/she is crying to prevent him/her from swallowing too much air, which can effectively prevent spitting up. After feeding, raise your head for a while, or lie on the right side with your head high and feet low, and gently pat your back to expel gas from the stomach. Do not turn your baby over to prevent the milk from flowing in the digestive tract.

2. Fasting: Fasting treatment can effectively reduce irritation to the gastric mucosa and is the key to reducing vomiting. The fasting time is determined according to the cause of the disease and the child's abdominal distension and vomiting. During the fasting period, the child's crying movements, feeding reflex, etc. need to be closely observed. Monitor blood sugar levels to avoid hypoglycemia.

3. Gastric lavage: For neonatal swallowing syndrome, due to excessive swallowing of amniotic fluid and meconium, vomiting caused by irritation of the gastric mucosa, 1% sodium bicarbonate solution or normal saline is used clinically to wash the stomach to clear the residue in the intestine.

4. Enema: For vomiting caused by meconium obstruction in newborns, warm saline or 1% soapy water 30-50 ml is used clinically for enema to expel meconium and thus suppress vomiting.

5. Establish intravenous access: For infections inside and outside the intestine, give appropriate and timely medication according to the cause of vomiting. In order to ensure the nutritional supply of newborns, the drip rate must be strictly controlled during infusion to correct water and electrolyte disorders.
