What causes swollen eyelids in children?

Children belong to a vulnerable group. They cannot express their ideas, let alone their illnesses. We can only observe swollen eyelids in children through our vision. We may know whether the children have discovered some symptoms, but many parents do not have much experience in taking care of children. Let us understand what is causing swollen eyelids in children.

Eyelid edema is what we usually call eyelid swelling, which is a relatively common phenomenon. There are many causes of eyelid edema, which can be generally divided into physiological and pathological causes:

Physiological eyelid edema: For example, lack of sleep at night, sleeping too long, or sleeping with a pillow that is too low at night, which affects the blood return to the face. This type of eyelid edema is more common in healthy people, has no effect on the body, and can often subside naturally.

Pathological eyelid edema: Clinically, it can be divided into inflammatory eyelid edema and non-inflammatory eyelid edema.

In addition to eyelid edema, inflammatory eyelid edema also has symptoms such as local redness, swelling, heat, and pain.

Common causes include:

1. Acute inflammation of the eyelids, such as stye, erysipelas, etc.

2. Trauma of the eyelids, such as chemical injuries and insect stings.

3. Inflammation around the eyes, such as acute dacryocystitis, orbital periostitis, etc.

Swollen eyelids in young children are probably a common phenomenon of eyelid edema, but there are many reasons for this condition. After understanding the above reasons, when you find that your child also has the above symptoms, you should go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time. You must be very careful about the medication of children. You cannot seek medical treatment or take medicine indiscriminately, as this will be bad for the child's physical condition.
