What to do if your newborn baby has mucus in his nose

Many newborns have wet and yellow earwax when they are just born. This is because the newborn lives in the amniotic fluid in the mother's womb before birth, and the amniotic fluid soaks the fetus. However, some careful mothers will find that there is also nasal mucus in the newborn's nose, and there is a lot of nasal mucus, but they dare not clean it easily for the baby. So, what should I do if there is nasal mucus in the newborn's nose?

1. Use simple non-irritating oils (such as Vaseline, lanolin, paraffin oil) and other substances with cotton swabs to apply to the nasal vestibule three or four times a day, especially in the morning, evening and before going to bed. This can make the front of the nasal cavity oily and not dry, and there will be no nasal mucus. This method can not only protect the nasal cavity, but also prevent nasal secretions from sticking to the nasal vestibule to cause nasal mucus. It can even reduce the habit of newborns to pick their noses due to nasal itching, and can also reduce the situation of nosebleeds caused by picking the nasal vestibule. However, after clearing the nasal mucus, if there is still nasal discharge, nasal congestion or nasal pus, you should see a doctor as soon as possible.

2. You may wish to use a small cotton swab, squeeze a little erythromycin ointment on the tip of the cotton swab, then gently insert the cotton swab tip with erythromycin into the newborn's nose, and evenly apply the erythromycin in both nostrils of the baby. Erythromycin can dilute the mucus in the newborn's nose. After the mucus is diluted, you can use a clean cotton swab to gently remove the mucus from the newborn's nose.

3. Put warm water in a spill-proof bottle for newborns. After the newborn falls asleep at night, turn the bottle upside down and when the water stops dripping, gently pinch the nipple a few times and drip the water into the lower edge of the newborn's nostrils.

4. Place a humidifier in the room to ensure the indoor humidity, especially in winter when the air is most prone to dryness. Or place a basin of clean water in the room at night. If the room has a floor, it is best to wipe it twice a day with a wet cloth to moisturize it. Then wash the newborn's face every night before going to bed, which can also moisturize the nostrils. Try not to use nasal aspirators on newborns. If the nasal congestion is really severe, you can use your mouth to suck the newborn.

Parents of newborns often encounter their babies' blocked noses and runny noses. However, due to the small nasal cavity of newborns, the mucus often cannot be discharged. When the mucus dries, it forms nasal crusts that block the nostrils, making it difficult for the child to breathe. Parents are very anxious when encountering this situation.

1. You can use a cotton swab dipped in sesame oil and gently rotate it in the child's nostrils. After a while, when the child sneezes, the booger will come out by itself.

2. You can drop a small amount of cold boiled water or some anti-inflammatory nasal drops or eye drops into the nostrils, and then use the above method after it softens.

3. You can gently pinch the outside of the baby's nostrils, and the mucus may fall off, or induce the baby to sneeze to clear it out.

4. Families with the means can use ultrasonic atomization equipment or similar equipment that can produce water vapor. Let the water vapor be directed at the baby's nostrils, which can also help soften the nasal mucus.

5. First, cover the nose with a warm and wet towel to soften the booger, then use a napkin to roll it into a thin stick and rotate it in the nostrils to get the booger out.
