Treatment of sinusitis in children

Treatment of sinusitis in children

Adults will feel very painful when they have sinusitis, let alone children. Therefore, once children have sinusitis, they should hurry up to treat it. Don't delay the best treatment period because the condition is not serious, thus leaving regrets. Below we will introduce the treatment methods of children's sinusitis in detail.

Treatment of acute sinusitis in children

Adequate systemic antibiotics should be used as early as possible to control infection and anti-allergic reactions. Apply nasal mucosa astringents (Biyanjing is prohibited) and glucocorticoids topically to the nasal cavity to facilitate ventilation and drainage of the nasal cavity and sinuses. In addition, attention should be paid to rest and nutritious and easily digestible food. If there are complications, they should be treated simultaneously.

Treatment of chronic sinusitis in children

In addition to general treatment, sinus replacement can also be considered, which is more effective for patients with ethmoid sinusitis and pansinusitis. It can also be supplemented with physical therapy. People with atopic constitution can be combined with anti-allergic therapy. For older children with chronic maxillary sinusitis, maxillary sinus puncture and irrigation can also be considered. After irrigation, antibiotic solution can be injected into the sinus cavity. Considering that most children with chronic maxillary sinusitis may be related to local immune deficiency, a mixture of 0.2%-0.5% levamisole and antibiotics can be injected into the sinus cavity. Most children with sinusitis can recover after proper treatment, and surgical treatment is generally not required.

Since nasal mucus is often thick, some medicines that can thin the mucus can be used, such as Sinlube and Honeysuckle Oil.

If symptoms do not improve satisfactorily after repeated treatments, or if nasal examination and sinus CT scan reveal nasal polyps in the nasal cavity that seriously affect nasal ventilation, sinus surgery may be considered. Some children have intraorbital or intracranial complications of sinusitis due to abnormal structures in the nasal cavity, which is also an indication for surgery. However, since the child is still in the growth and development period, the scope of the operation should not be too large, and the normal nasal structure should be preserved as much as possible to avoid affecting the maxillofacial development.

Adenoids hypertrophy plays an important role in the onset of sinusitis, because adenoids hypertrophy blocks the posterior nasal cavity, making nasal drainage difficult. At the same time, bacteria and viruses can be hidden in the adenoids tissue, making it a source of infection. Therefore, children with adenoids hypertrophy and sinusitis should first undergo adenoidectomy. Sinusitis is often easier to treat after the operation.

Above, we have introduced in detail the treatment methods for children's sinusitis. If you find that your child has children's sinusitis, you must actively treat it.
