Introduction to neonatal swallowing syndrome

For a disease called neonatal swallowing syndrome, many friends may not know how to treat it in life, but we suggest that everyone should have a certain understanding of its symptoms and treatment methods in life. For diseases like neonatal swallowing syndrome, we generally do not need to treat it. We just need to pay attention to the child's eating problems.

Neonatal swallowing syndrome is not uncommon in newborns. It is caused by swallowing too much amniotic fluid, some of which contains more maternal blood or is contaminated with meconium, which can irritate the gastric mucosa of the newborn and cause vomiting. The clinical manifestations are vomiting after birth without eating, vomiting worsens after eating, vomitus is white mucus or yellow-green flocs, abdomen is not bloated, and meconium discharge is normal.

Regarding the treatment of neonatal swallowing syndrome, mild cases require temporary fasting and supportive treatment. The baby will recover on his own after 1-2 days of vomiting. Breastfeeding can be carried out in time. It will not have a big impact on the child's health. However, if vomiting occurs frequently and the vomit contains meconium or is brown, fasting, supportive treatment and symptomatic treatment are required. In general, metoclopramide is given at a rate of 0.3 mg/kg three times a day. It increases gastric motility, facilitates gastric emptying, stops vomiting, and allows for early eating.

However, for neonatal swallowing syndrome in which the swallowed amniotic fluid is moderately or severely contaminated, the effect of metoclopramide alone is poor, and gastric lavage is required to exert its therapeutic effect. In this regard, the clinical application of lactobacillus tablets in combination with treatment methods in recent years has achieved satisfactory results.

Lactobacillus tablets have the functions of promoting gastric juice secretion, enhancing digestive function, promoting intestinal peristalsis, selectively killing pathogenic bacteria in the digestive tract, protecting the growth of beneficial bacteria and regulating the balance of gastrointestinal flora. Used for neonatal swallowing syndrome, it can help the swallowed amniotic fluid and meconium be excreted as soon as possible, and work synergistically with morphine to avoid gastric lavage and make treatment simpler. In addition, the use of lactobacillus tablets promotes the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria, which is beneficial to the restoration of normal intestinal digestive function and lays a good foundation for eating as soon as possible.

In order to help us better understand the disease of neonatal swallowing syndrome, the article introduces its treatment methods and symptoms in detail. I hope that you as mothers can have a certain understanding of it. For this common disease among newborns, we should take good prevention measures in our lives to ensure the healthy growth of our children.
