We know that parents cannot ignore children who stutter, but we don't have any good methods to treat children's stuttering. In fact, parents should know what stuttering is and the causes of stuttering, and they can treat the children according to the causes of stuttering.

Stuttering in children can be prevented. We know that once a child develops symptoms of stuttering, it will be quite difficult to treat, so we must nip this symptom in the bud.

The main manifestations are speech rhythm disorder, repeated interruptions and blockages of speech or words, and lack of fluency. They may be accompanied by speech-aiding movements such as stomping and patting legs. Children with stuttering often show timidity, withdrawal, inferiority complex or other emotional disorders.

The following three items must be met:

① Frequent repetition or extension of speech or syllables affects the fluency of speech;

② No obstacles to expressing content;

③ Rule out tics and other neurological diseases

The disorder of speech rhythm is caused by the tension spasm of the pronunciation and respiratory organs, which is more likely to occur when the child is excited, fearful or emotionally agitated. It can manifest in different forms such as the inability to pronounce the first word, the difficulty in pronouncing a word in the middle of a sentence, or meaningless repetition of pronunciation. When the child speaks, he may stomp his feet, wave his hands, squint his eyes, twist his mouth, tremble his lips, shake his trunk, etc., and stuttering may easily affect his personality such as loneliness, inferiority, shyness, etc. Some children are often easily excited or irritated, accompanied by emotional instability and sleep disorders.

Children's daily life should be regular. They should eat at regular times and ensure adequate sleep and rest. Do not force children aged 3 to 7 to memorize long stories or poems that are not suitable for their language ability. Develop good speaking habits. Rhythmic singing and reciting are helpful for children's language training. Parents or school and kindergarten teachers should provide warmth and help in many aspects to children with stuttering, and people around them should not tease, laugh at or deliberately imitate the children's stuttering.

Treatment for stuttering in children

First of all, we need to help the child overcome the inferiority and tension caused by stuttering. He or she can speak calmly and slowly, and gradually master the rules of fluent speech. Parents should treat children who stutter correctly, not over-correct their speech, and avoid punishment or discrimination. Take stuttering correction training treatment in time. Encourage children to participate in group activities and exercise. People with severe stuttering can be treated with small doses of haloperidol, 0.5 to 2 mg, 1 to 2 times a day, or anti-anxiety drugs.
