Nine daily necessities that are harmful to babies!

Nine daily necessities that are poisonous to babies! The editor of maternal and child knowledge recommends reading: Home is not the safest place, toxic substances are lurking everywhere. Professor Stephen Smith of the Department of Environmental Sciences at King's College London in the UK listed nine toxic household items and provided safer alternatives for each. Adults have to be careful about these items, let alone babies?

Toxic items for babies: Air fresheners

Most air fresheners contain phenol. If inhaled, it can cause breathing difficulties, headaches, and irritate the eyes. Skin contact may also cause peeling.

Alternative: Freshen the air naturally, like adding potted plants or placing grapefruit peels.

Toxic to babies: Bleach

Most bleaches contain a chemical called sodium hypochlorite. It is highly corrosive and releases irritating toxic gases. Excessive exposure may cause damage to the lungs and hair. It's especially dangerous to use bleach and ammonia (commonly used in household cleaners) together because the two react chemically to release chlorine gas.

Alternative solution: For hard-to-clean stains on baby clothes, you can wipe them repeatedly with lemon.

Toxic items for babies: Plastic toys

Low-quality plastic toys may contain phthalates. A study in the United States found that long-term exposure to phthalates can cause genital deformities.

Alternative solution: Try to choose some wooden toys for your baby.

Toxic items for babies: electrical appliances

Many electrical appliances, such as televisions, computers and electric blankets, often contain bromine flame retardants. Brominated flame retardants are released into the air and may be inhaled by babies and are not easily excreted from the body. Currently, bromine flame retardants have been banned in European countries such as Sweden.

Alternatives: Use hot water bottles instead of electric blankets; move electrical appliances out of the bedroom to avoid inhaling bromine flame retardants while sleeping.

Toxic items for babies: Cleaning powder

Many cleaning powders used to clean glass windows have a distinctive ammonia smell. This can cause irritation and corrosion to the skin and cause eye and lung problems. Long-term contact with ammonia can also cause liver damage to the baby.

Alternative solution: Use two tablespoons of vinegar, add one liter of hot water, then dampen the cloth and wipe the glass.

Toxic items for babies: Jewelry containing nickel

Jewelry containing nickel may cause contact dermatitis.

Alternative solution: Try not to let your baby wear jewelry. Not only will it cause skin inflammation in your baby, but small items can easily scratch your baby or be swallowed by your baby by mistake.

Toxic to babies: Toilet cleaners

Naphthalene is commonly found in toilet cleaners. This toxic substance can irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory tract. If inhaled in large amounts, the baby's liver and kidneys will be damaged. Every time you clean the toilet, open the window for ventilation. If the toilet does not have windows, turn on the exhaust fan.

Alternative solution: Pour 250 ml of white vinegar into the toilet bowl and scrub it the next day.

Toxic items for babies: Shoe polish

Shoe polish contains nitrobenzene, which is toxic to the central nervous system and may cause headaches and drowsiness.

Alternative: Dip a cotton cloth in olive oil and add a few drops of lemon juice, apply it to your baby's shoes, and wipe it clean after a few minutes.

Toxic items for babies: synthetic sheets

Synthetic fiber sheets may contain formaldehyde. This substance can irritate the skin and respiratory tract and can never be washed away.

Toxic items for babies: Alternative solution: Use 100% cotton sheets for your baby.
