What should children pay attention to when they have measles

Children are at high risk of measles. Although they are given measles vaccines when they are young, they only serve as a warning and many children are still infected. If a child in the class has measles, this child must be given a day off and separated from other children. In addition, the house should be ventilated frequently, and the child should also pay attention to dressing appropriately to avoid catching a cold. The following introduces the precautions for children with measles. Let’s take a look.

1. Children with measles should be isolated at home unless there are any complications. The isolation period is 5 days, and if there are complications, it needs to be extended to 10 days. Since the measles virus quickly loses its pathogenicity once it leaves the human body, the purpose of air disinfection can be achieved as long as windows are opened frequently for ventilation in the room. After coming into contact with a sick child, parents only need to stay outdoors for 20 minutes to avoid infecting others. Sick child's clothes. Bedding, toys, etc. can be disinfected by drying them outdoors for 1 to 2 hours.

2. Rest in bed until the rash subsides and the symptoms disappear. In order to allow sick children to rest well, a good rest environment should be created for them. The room should be quiet, the air should be fresh and moist, and windows should be opened frequently for ventilation, but drafts should be avoided and cold wind should not be allowed to blow directly on the sick child. Strong light should be avoided to irritate the sick child's eyes. Curtains should be drawn on the windows and light bulbs should be covered with lampshades. The sick child should be dressed and covered appropriately. If he is overdressed and covered, he will be covered in sweat and will be easily caught a cold when exposed to the wind, which may lead to pneumonia.

3. Provide light and easily digestible liquid or semi-liquid food. Drink more water or hot soup, which will not only help to excrete toxins from the body and reduce fever, but also promote blood circulation and make the rash easier to break out. When the rash subsides and enters the recovery period, add nutritious food in time. There is no need to avoid certain foods except raw, cold and greasy foods.

4. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the sick child's skin, eyes, mouth and nose. After the measles virus invades the human body, it not only causes rashes on the skin, but also causes secretions in the conjunctiva, oral cavity, and nasal mucosa. These secretions contain a large number of viruses. If not cleaned in time, the secretions will irritate the skin and mucous membranes for a long time, reducing the resistance of these parts and creating conditions for the virus to continue to invade and other pathogenic bacteria to grow and multiply. Therefore, it is very important to keep the skin and mucous membranes of the sick child clean.

5. Care for high fever. If the child with measles has no complications and the fever does not exceed 39°C, there is no need to take antipyretic measures. If the fever is above 39°C, some antipyretic measures are needed, such as taking a small amount of aspirin as directed by the doctor, and avoiding cold compresses and alcohol baths.

6. Pay attention to the condition and detect complications early. Complications of measles are many and serious. Common complications include pneumonia, laryngitis, myocarditis and encephalitis.
