ADHD in children

ADHD in children

Every child is a gift from God to his or her parents, so every parent is particularly concerned about the growth of their children. During the growth process, if their children have a cold or a fever, they will be particularly concerned and distressed. However, some parents are usually busy with work and ignore their children's normal performance, such as children with ADHD. Because this type of disease does not have special clinical manifestations, it is often ignored by parents.

What is ADHD in children? In fact, ADHD in children refers to the excitement, hyperactivity and sleep disorders shown by children, who are constantly moving all day long. However, ADHD in children is usually discovered after children go to school because patients have difficulty concentrating, learning difficulties, etc. Below, let us learn about the symptoms of ADHD in children.

1. Attention deficit, manifested as obvious difficulty in concentrating and short attention span that is disproportionate to age, is the core symptom of this disease. Patients often have difficulty paying attention when listening to lectures, doing homework or other activities, and are easily distracted by external stimuli. Unable to pay attention to details in study or activities, and often make mistakes due to carelessness. Difficulty maintaining attention, often intentionally avoiding or being unwilling to engage in tasks that require sustained concentration for a long time, such as classwork or homework. Procrastination and failure to complete homework or assigned tasks on time. Patients are prone to losing things, often losing toys and school supplies, forgetting daily activity schedules, and even forgetting homework assigned by teachers.

2. Excessive activity, manifested by the patient often appearing restless, making many small movements of the hands and feet, being unable to sit still, and twisting and turning in the seat. Leaving your seat without permission, running around or climbing in the classroom or other quiet situations. Has difficulty engaging in quiet activities or games and is constantly busy throughout the day.

3. Impulsive behavior, making behavioral responses quickly without sufficient information. They behave impulsively, do things without considering the consequences and act based on their momentary interests. As a result, they often fight or have disputes with their peers, resulting in adverse consequences. Interrupting others when they are speaking, answering the teacher's question before he or she has finished answering, and being unable to wait patiently in line.

4. Learning difficulties, because attention disorders and hyperactivity affect the patient's listening effect in class, the speed and quality of completing homework, resulting in poor academic performance, which is often lower than the academic performance that should be achieved with their intelligence.

5. Abnormal development of the nervous system. The patient's fine motor skills, coordinated movements, and spatial position sense are poorly developed. For example, turning hands, finger movements, tying shoelaces and buttoning are not convenient, and it is difficult to distinguish left from right. A small number of patients have problems such as delayed language development, poor language expression ability, and low intelligence.

The above are the main clinical manifestations of children with ADHD. We can see that, in fact, children’s innocence and restlessness are somewhat similar to the symptoms of ADHD, so it is difficult for many parents to discover it. Therefore, if we find that our children have a little symptom, we must go to the hospital for examination in time to avoid missing the best time to treat the disease.
