Do babies need to wash their mouths?

When a newborn is just born, it has not yet grown teeth. At this time, many parents will ignore the child's oral hygiene. During this period, the child's oral hygiene is also very important. If you do not pay attention, it is easy to cause oral ulcers and some diseases such as thrush in children. It is relatively simple to clean the baby's mouth in time. You can use an alcohol cotton swab dipped in a small amount of saline to wipe it, which can achieve the effect of cleaning the mouth.

Do babies need to wash their mouths?

Yes, when a baby is just born, there will often be some secretions in the mouth. This is a normal phenomenon and generally does not need to be wiped off. You can regularly feed the baby some warm boiled water to rinse off the secretions in the mouth.

If there is still dirt or secretions in the baby's mouth, the mother does not need to be too anxious. She should let the baby lie on his side and wrap a small towel or bib under the baby's jaw. After washing her hands, the mother should use a cotton swab dipped in a little salt water or warm water to clean the cheeks, the outside of the gums, the inside of the gums and the tongue in this order. Because the baby's oral mucosa is extremely tender, produces little saliva, is easily damaged and can cause infection, you must be gentle when cleaning it.

After a period of time, you should gradually develop the habit of cleaning your baby's gums with a clean gauze or handkerchief dipped in warm water every morning and evening. You should persist in doing this even if the child's deciduous teeth have not grown. Doing so can keep the baby's mouth clean and provide a good growth environment for the eruption of deciduous teeth.

After 6 months, the baby's deciduous teeth will erupt. At this time, you can let the baby sit on the parents' laps, wrap clean gauze or handkerchiefs around your fingers, and gently scrub the baby's newly erupted deciduous teeth; after the baby is 12 months old, parents should teach the baby to brush his teeth. At the beginning, you can let your baby take a toothbrush without toothpaste to imitate, and then help your child brush his teeth step by step. It won’t take long before your baby will be able to brush his teeth skillfully.
