What to do if your baby has a recurring high fever

What to do if your baby has a recurring high fever

Hospitals are really overcrowded now, especially some pediatric departments. Sometimes there is no space available. This phenomenon is very common. Babies have low immunity and are easily infected, so parents need to be careful. Some babies have repeated high fevers, which not only harms the child's brain, but also affects the parents' emotions. If your child has a recurring fever, parents should not be too nervous. They need to go to the hospital for examination. Let me tell you what to do if your baby has a recurring fever.

Fever in children is a common clinical symptom in children. In most cases, fever is a protective response of the body to fight invading pathogens, and it is a process in which the human body mobilizes the immune system to fight infection. However, fever does not necessarily mean serious illness, and the abnormal rise in body temperature is not necessarily proportional to the severity of the disease. A child's normal body temperature may fluctuate within a certain range due to factors such as temperature, age, diet, crying, and the thickness of clothing. A slight increase in body temperature does not necessarily have pathological significance. When a child's temperature does rise, pay attention to the child's demeanor and behavior instead of relying solely on a thermometer. Compared with a child with a body temperature of 38℃ and a dull look, a child with a body temperature of 40℃ but still naughty deserves more of our attention. A child with low resistance is unlikely to have a fever even if he or she suffers from a serious illness. Fever is a defensive reaction of the body, but excessive fever or long-term fever can affect the body's various regulatory functions, thus affecting the child's physical health. Therefore, when you see a child with a fever, you should actively find out the cause and treat it accordingly.

According to doctors' statistics, high fever accounts for about 80% of children's nighttime emergency visits, and colds are the most common disease causing fever. The child has a fever, which makes the parents very anxious. In fact, as long as you master the correct care methods, it is not a problem to reduce your child's fever in a short period of time. Experts suggest that the following care measures can be taken for children who suddenly develop a high fever at night (measured axillary temperature ≥ 39°C):

(1) In homes equipped with air conditioners, the room temperature can be kept between 21°C and 24°C; let the child rest in bed, with the blanket or clothes loosened to expose the skin;

(2) Encourage children to drink plenty of cool water or clean liquids, at least 300 ml per night;

(3) Take antipyretics, such as Tylenol or Tone oral solution in appropriate amounts, and take again every 4-6 hours if necessary. Measure body temperature every 1-2 hours until the temperature drops to normal range;

(4) If antipyretic drugs are not effective, physical cooling can be used. Give your child a warm bath (water temperature 32℃-34℃) to help dissipate heat. It should be pointed out that regardless of whether the fever has subsided, parents should take their children to the hospital for treatment the next day. In addition, a family of three must always have antipyretic and cold medicines on hand.

After reading the above-mentioned reasons for baby fever and some emergency treatment measures, you should all understand! If the baby is born healthy, there will generally not be any major problems, unless the baby has repeated fevers due to external factors in the later stage. It is very bad for babies to have repeated fevers. In addition to treating their children in a timely manner, parents also need to take good care of their children in daily life.
