Why do babies get thrush?

Why do babies get thrush?

There are many reasons for thrush in babies. For newborns, it may be related to the baby's fungal infection through the birth canal. In addition, the baby's poor physique and poor immunity are also prone to thrush. If the mother does not pay attention to care when feeding the baby, it may also cause thrush. Thrush is caused by fungal infection, and fungi can cause cross infection.

Why do babies get thrush?

1. The mother's vagina is infected with fungi, and the baby is infected when passing through the birth canal and coming into contact with the mother's secretions;

2. Failure to thoroughly sterilize bottles and nipples, and unclean nipples during breastfeeding can all be sources of infection;

3. Contact with food, clothing and toys infected with Candida albicans. In addition, infants and young children begin to grow teeth at 6 to 7 months old. At this time, the gums may feel slightly swollen and painful, and infants and young children like to bite their fingers and toys, which can easily bring bacteria and mold into the mouth and cause infection;

4. Living in a group in kindergarten, children may get thrush due to cross infection;

5. Long-term use of antibiotics or inappropriate use of hormone treatment can cause an imbalance in the body's flora, allowing fungi to take advantage of the situation and multiply in large numbers, causing thrush.

How to care for babies with thrush

1. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the patient's oral cavity, provide guidance on feeding, and strengthen personal hygiene. Rinse the nipples with warm water before and after feeding, and give the baby a small amount of warm water after feeding. Use 1:3 honeysuckle and licorice solution to scrub the mouth 3-4 times a day. For local ulcers, apply appropriate amount of Bingpengsan or 1% gentian violet externally.

2. Observe the increase or decrease of white flakes on the oral mucosa and tongue of the sick child and the sucking situation. If the child is irritable, has bad breath, drooling, constipation, cries when sucking, or has difficulty swallowing or breathing, he or she should be sent to the hospital immediately. For those with fever, measure body temperature regularly, provide physical cooling, and feed light salt water or warm water. For those with bad breath and constipation, use 1 gram of rhubarb powder under the guidance of a doctor, soak it in boiling water and feed it to the patient. Chinese herbal decoctions should be taken warm in small amounts and multiple times. Dissolve Green Robe Powder in water and wipe the sore with a cotton swab. Then apply Bingpeng Powder mixed with sesame oil to the affected area of the mouth, 3 to 5 times a day.

3. The nursing mother should eat a light diet and avoid spicy food and alcohol. Do not feed too much at one time. Those with constipation can be fed vegetable soup. Children's bottles, nipples and tableware should be cleaned and disinfected regularly.

4. The baby is unwilling to eat. If you have a mild fever and feel irritable, you should go to the hospital. If you find that the curd-like substance on the oral mucosa spreads below the pharynx, you should go to the hospital for treatment to prevent serious complications such as difficulty breathing. There is no improvement after 5 to 7 days of treatment, or the thrush becomes more severe.
