What to do if your child has intussusception

Children are the apple of their parents' eyes. Many people know that since children's bodies are in a developmental stage in their early years, their immune systems and functions are prone to problems. Intussusception in children is a relatively common intestinal problem, which causes great trouble for children. After the foreign minister puts on the disc, children are prone to abdominal pain and bloody stools. So what should we do if a child develops a disease like intussusception?

Treatment of intussusception in children

Usually, the treatment of diseases is divided into two types: surgical and non-surgical. Intussusception in children is no exception. These two methods have their own applicable subjects and their own operating methods.

1. Non-surgical treatment

Non-surgical methods can be used for children who have just developed symptoms of intestinal intussusception. At this time, the child does not have dangerous conditions such as dehydration and peritonitis. The commonly used method is air enema reduction therapy.

Air enema reduction therapy mainly utilizes a special air injection machine, starting from the colon, and injects gas into the child's body through the anus. The gas continuously pushes the overlapping bulge until it retreats to the cecum and disappears. At this time, the sound of water vapor flowing in the child's body can be heard. When the abdomen suddenly bulges, it means that the original intestine has been restored. After the operation is completed and the air bag is removed, a lot of bloody stools and smelly water will be discharged from the child's body. The child will no longer have symptoms such as crying, and the original abdominal mass will also disappear.

2. Surgery

Patients who cannot be cured by non-surgical treatment can undergo surgery. Before the operation, the child's adverse reactions such as dehydration, fever, etc. should be relieved, and anesthesia is required during the treatment process. The surgery can directly operate on the intussusception site. At this time, the doctor will check whether the intestinal wall is necrosis. If so, it will be removed. Otherwise, the intestine will be manually repositioned. During this period, hot compresses can be used for multiple repositioning.

Prevention and first aid of intussusception in children

In addition to intestinal physiology and a small number of genetic factors, other causes of intestinal intussusception in children can be avoided through daily care to reduce the manifestation of symptoms.

1. Eat a healthy diet

The amount of food children consume should be reasonable, neither too much nor too little, otherwise it will be detrimental to gastrointestinal function. When children eat supplementary food, it should be done according to the absorption characteristics of their intestines to avoid digestive disorders. In addition, attention should be paid to the child's temperature to reduce the occurrence of gastrointestinal spasms.

2. Don’t take medication blindly

Some mothers worry that their children may have roundworms or parasites in their bodies, so they give their children medication. If the medication is used improperly, it will disrupt the peristaltic function of the intestines. Therefore, after examining the children and listening to the doctor's advice, they should use medication to avoid danger.

3. Seek medical attention immediately if you find any signs

If intussusception encounters inducing factors, it may recur, so parents should pay attention. When previous symptoms reappear, go to the hospital immediately.

Irregular attacks are a characteristic of acute diseases. Parents should understand how these diseases react in children. Even if the baby is healthy, if there are dangerous signs of intussusception, be sure to take the child to the hospital for treatment to avoid delaying the disease and causing adverse consequences for the child.
