Neonatal premature heart beats

Neonatal premature heart beats

Premature heart beats, as the name suggests, are premature heart beats, which are also a common symptom in newborns. As we all know, the beating of the heart maintains our daily life and supplies blood to various parts of our body. If the heartbeat of a newborn is irregular, it may indicate the occurrence of a disease, so parents should pay special attention. If it happens suddenly, there is no big problem. However, if it persists for a long time, you need to check your baby quickly to avoid delaying the treatment.

How do premature heart beats occur?

①Heart beating is the basic activity that maintains human life. Normal heart beating depends on normal cardiac electrical activity. The command center of normal cardiac electrical activity is the sinoatrial node, located in the wall of the right atrium. It contains pacemaker cells that can send out electrical signals regularly and rhythmically. It is the pacemaker of the normal rhythmic heart beat and commands the beating of the heart. The number of times it sends out bioelectric signals determines the heart rate. Although various parts of the heart can also send out bioelectric signals, the rhythm of the sinoatrial node is faster than that of any other part. Therefore, under normal circumstances, the rhythm of the sinoatrial node always controls the rhythm of the entire heart, making it impossible for the rhythm of other parts to manifest. Therefore, the normal heart rhythm is based on the rhythm of the sinoatrial node, which is called sinus rhythm. The electrical activity released by the sinoatrial node is rapidly transmitted to the entire heart through the conduction system composed of the atrioventricular node and many interconnected fiber branches, ensuring the coordinated work of all parts of the heart.

② The occurrence of premature beats is due to the premature occurrence of electrical impulses in the ectopic excitation focus of the heart, which can cause the heart to beat prematurely, which is also professionally called "premature heart contraction". Ectopic excitation foci can be located in the atria, ventricles, and atrial-ventricular junction. The premature beats caused are called atrial premature beats, ventricular premature beats, and junctional premature beats, among which ventricular premature beats are the most common.

③Neonatal premature beats are not a symptom unique to myocarditis. Therefore, when a child has premature beats, parents should not diagnose the child with myocarditis first. Instead, they should see a pediatric cardiologist to identify the cause so that the correct treatment can be taken and unnecessary treatment can be avoided.

What are the symptoms and hazards of premature beats in newborns

① Occasional premature beats: generally asymptomatic.

② Frequent premature beats: Children may experience symptoms such as chest tightness and palpitations.

③ During the examination, it was found that the heart beat was early, but the gap between it and the next heart beat was long, which is the so-called arrhythmia. At this time, the strength of the heart sounds is also inconsistent.

④ The number of premature beats varies from person to person, ranging from 1 time/several minutes to dozens of times/minute, and may also be different at different times.

⑤Harm: Premature beats themselves generally do not significantly affect heart function, and their harm is mainly related to the causes of premature beats.
