Why is the child's stool green?

By observing the color of the baby's stool, we can understand the baby's physical health. Some parents will find that their baby's stool has turned green. Under normal circumstances, the stool of breastfed babies is yellow or golden yellow, and the consistency is very uniform, and there will be no mucus. The stool of artificially fed babies will be very hard and prone to dryness. So what is the matter with children's green stool?

First, why does a child's stool turn green? Babies may regurgitate milk and have green stools if they catch a cold or have indigestion. If there is a bacterial infection, active treatment is needed. If the test results are normal, the baby may have indigestion or a cold abdomen. When the baby is not full, the baby's gastrointestinal motility is too fast due to hunger, so the bilirubin in the intestines has not yet been converted and is excreted from the stool, making the stool green and watery.

Second, it is a normal physiological phenomenon for babies to have green stools, which is usually caused by dietary factors. As long as the diet is adjusted, the baby's green stools will soon return to normal. But if the mother is still worried, it is recommended to take the baby to the hospital for stool testing. If it is normal, it is considered that the green stool is caused by physiological reasons. This is not a disease and no special treatment is required.

Why do children's stools turn green? During the digestion process of fat, less bile is consumed, and the excess bile is excreted from the stool, making the stool green. If the mother thinks that the baby eats a lot, it means that he has indigestion, and she can give the baby some probiotics. If a baby who eats iron-fortified milk powder cannot fully absorb the iron in the milk powder, his stool will be yellow-green, the white particles in the stool will be larger, and will be more likely to have a foul odor. When babies first start eating vegetable puree, they often excrete a small amount of green vegetable puree in their stool. Some mothers often think that this is indigestion and stop adding vegetable puree. In fact, this phenomenon is common when healthy babies change their food.
