Is it really good for babies to bathe with mugwort leaves?

Mugwort, also known as Artemisia argyi, is a medicinal herb we often see. In some places, there is a tradition of boiling water with mugwort to bathe babies around the Dragon Boat Festival. The implication of doing this is that the baby will be healthier in the future, able to resist the harassment of summer insects, and can also cure prickly heat caused by the summer heat. But is it really good to use mugwort to boil water for your baby to bathe?

1. Benefits of taking a bath with mugwort leaves

1. Bathing babies with mugwort water can remove moisture, drive away cold, moisturize the skin, promote blood circulation, eliminate bacteria, and relieve itching. Summer is especially suitable for bathing babies with mugwort water.

2. When boiling mugwort water for your baby, add a few slices of ginger to more effectively expel the cold from your baby's body.

3. Generally, if you want to bathe your baby with mugwort, fresh mugwort is difficult to find, but dry mugwort is much easier to find. You can buy a large bag for six yuan at the pharmacy, and one bag can be used five to six times. It is economical and easy to use. However, you must be careful to filter out the mugwort when bathing, because the leaves and branches in the dry mugwort are mixed together, and it is not like fresh leaves, which are easier to remove the branches. If you don’t filter out the mugwort, the baby’s skin will easily be scratched by the mixed mugwort leaves and branches.

2. How to take a bath with mugwort leaves

1. Preparation: a bag of dried mugwort leaves.

2. Method:

(1) Go to the pharmacy and buy a bag of dried mugwort leaves.

(2) Take out 1/5 or 1/6 of the dried mugwort and boil it in a pot of water.

(3) Filter out the mugwort leaves from the mugwort water, and then pour the filtered mugwort water into the baby’s bathtub.

(4) Finally, add an appropriate amount of hot water into the bathtub and your baby can take a bath. You can let your baby soak in the bath for a while.

3. Tips:

1. When bathing your baby with mugwort leaves, remember not to use shower gel.

2. Fresh mugwort leaves are rare nowadays. If you have mugwort leaves, remember to remove the branches when bathing your baby to avoid scratching your baby's delicate skin.
