What to do if your child sprains his wrist

What to do if your child sprains his wrist

A child has just come into this world from his mother's womb. He is full of curiosity about every aspect of the world, is not afraid of unknown risks, and is more willing to try new things. At the same time, he also faces the possibility of being injured. Children’s health is one of the issues that parents are most concerned about. When a child is accidentally injured, parents often feel very worried. What should you do if your child sprains his wrist?

Wrist sprain in children is a very common disease. Due to people's lack of attention in daily life, children's wrists will suffer from sprain symptoms after being subjected to gravity pressure or impact. Children, in particular, are more susceptible to sprains because their bones are not fully developed. After a child sprains his wrist, he should not twist it at will to avoid secondary injury. The following methods can be used to treat it.

1: Don’t twist it randomly

When people sprain their limbs, they often turn or massage them involuntarily. However, in many cases, random twisting will aggravate the symptoms of the injured part. Especially before an accurate diagnosis is made, the sprained part should not be moved casually. If it is a limb, you need to raise the wrist and lift it up to allow the blood to flow smoothly. The correct method is this: if it is an upper arm fracture, it is best to place the arm at the level of the heart; if it is a lower limb, lift the leg to above the knee level.

2: Do not apply hot compress but cold compress

Many of us will apply a hot towel to the painful area after falling or spraining an injury, thinking that this will make us feel more comfortable. However, this is not the right way to do it, because the capillaries are bleeding, and hot compress will cause the blood vessels to dilate further, causing more severe hematoma and slowing down healing. If the injury is a fracture, hot compress should be avoided. Cold compresses can control capillary bleeding. Therefore, it is absolutely not advisable to apply hot compress to the injured area. If you feel unbearable pain, you can use ice to apply cold compress.

3. Apply ointment for injuries caused by falls

The injury ointment allows the medicine to penetrate quickly through the human skin, producing the effects of promoting blood circulation, promoting qi, relaxing muscles and dispersing knots. However, if a fracture has already occurred at the sprained site, applying a plaster will only temporarily relieve the surface symptoms. The fractured site will not heal and may be easily dislocated, eventually causing bone deformity.

4. Apply safflower oil

After the capillaries are ruptured, applying safflower oil will increase blood flow and increase swelling. During the acute phase of injury, that is, within 24 hours, if safflower oil is applied and rubbed, it will aggravate blood oozing and swelling at the injured site. Therefore, safflower oil must be used 24 hours after the injury occurs. It is also not suitable for patients with skin ulcers or allergies.

5. Chinese medicine prescription

1: Prescription: 50 grams of fresh Achyranthes bidentata, 5 grams of salt. Usage: Wash and mash the foot medicine, add salt and mix well, apply to the affected area, fix with a bandage, and change the dressing once a day. Efficacy: Mild cases can be cured with one dose and severe cases can be cured with two doses, with an effective rate of 100%

2: Prescription: 50g each of Gardenia and Frankincense. Usage: Grind the two medicines into powder, add appropriate amount of rice wine, heat in a pot, stir into a paste, and apply to the affected area. The medicine is 1.5 cm thick, covered with oil paper, and bandaged with gauze. Change the dressing once every two days. It is contraindicated for those with skin lesions. Efficacy: Take the medicine twice. The recovery rate is 96.4%

6: If your child's wrist is slightly sprained, you can handle it yourself, but be sure to master the correct method and not twist the child's wrist casually. You must protect the child's wrist. If the symptoms of the sprain are more serious, do not delay and go to the hospital to let a professional doctor treat it.
