What should I pay attention to when taking anthelmintics?

I believe most people are familiar with anthelmintics. After all, everyone has done anthelmintics when they were young. But deworming doesn’t just happen to children, adults also need to pay attention. Adults generally need to take anthelmintics once a year, especially when the seasons change, because there will be a lot of seasonal fruits, snacks, etc., which can cause us to get sick from the food we eat. Of course, you can't just take anthelmintics. You also have to avoid certain things, otherwise the anthelmintics will be in vain. What should I pay attention to when taking anthelmintics?

1. Eat sour food

After children take anthelmintics, it is best to eat some sour food, such as black plum, hawthorn, vinegar, etc., which may be more effective. Ascaris has the characteristic of "going dormant in sourness". When it encounters sour foods such as black plum, hawthorn, vinegar, etc., ascaris will temporarily lie dormant. Therefore, acidic foods themselves can be considered a good medicine for ascaris. After taking anthelmintics, children can boil sour foods such as black plums and hawthorns into a thick soup and drink it, which is conducive to the excretion of roundworms.

2. Eat more fiber and less fat

After taking anthelmintics, you should drink more water and eat more foods containing plant fiber. Because water and plant fiber can enhance intestinal peristalsis, promote defecation, and promptly excrete the insects killed or paralyzed by drugs along with the feces. Foods high in fiber include cereals, nuts, fresh vegetables and fruits, such as celery, leeks, spinach, bananas, peaches, strawberries, etc.; eat less oily foods, because anthelmintics are mostly fat-soluble drugs and only have local therapeutic effects in the intestines. If you consume too much food with high oil content, it will promote the absorption of anthelmintics in the body, which not only increases their toxicity to the human body, but also reduces their efficacy; eat less "gas-producing" foods, such as radishes, sweet potatoes, beans, etc., to prevent abdominal distension and constipation, which is not conducive to deworming.

3. Deworming time

Some people are eager to check their stool one day after taking the medicine. The pharmacological mechanism of the new anthelmintic is to inhibit the parasite's absorption of glucose, causing the depletion of glycogen in the parasite body, making it impossible for the parasite to survive and reproduce. It is precisely because of this unique insecticidal mechanism that a large number of insects are not excreted until 2 to 4 days after taking the medicine. Therefore, you need to wait patiently for 2 to 3 days after taking the medicine before you can see the "results".

4. Not suitable for regular use

Anthelmintics are the same as other drugs. Regular use or overdose will cause adverse reactions such as dizziness, headache, vomiting, liver damage, etc. Therefore, children should not take anthelmintics frequently, and children with liver and kidney dysfunction, weak spleen and stomach, and acute fever should use them with caution or not use them at all. The liver of children under two years old is not fully developed, and most anthelmintics contain ingredients that affect liver function, which can cause liver damage after taking them. Therefore, the best way to prevent and treat intestinal parasitic diseases in children under two years old is to pay attention to hygiene and cut off the source of contact with worm eggs.
