What is the reason for black teeth in babies?

Many parents pay special attention to their baby's oral problems when they are young, because if the baby's deciduous teeth develop well, many oral diseases can be reduced during the baby's tooth replacement period, and it is particularly important to leave a good set of teeth for the baby. However, because the baby's teeth are relatively tender, they are easily corroded by the food they eat, especially foods such as yogurt. So what is the reason for the blackening of children's teeth?

Reasons why baby teeth turn black

An expert from the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Guanghua School of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University, said that there are two main reasons why teeth turn black:

One is simple pigmentation, which is caused by the rough surface of the teeth, uneven teeth, and difficulty in cleaning, causing food residues to adhere to the teeth;

It may also be related to the child's physique, such as concentrated saliva composition, slow flow rate, and small amount of saliva, which lead to easy pigmentation deposition; dietary hygiene habits also have an impact on it, such as eating a lot of sweet, sticky, and colored foods, or poor cleaning habits, and not brushing teeth or rinsing mouth in time after eating the above things.

Second, tooth decay is accompanied by pigmentation. When tooth decay occurs, pigmentation will occur faster and more seriously. Tooth decay and pigmentation can influence and promote each other.

"This problem can actually be completely solved, but the key is to seek medical attention as soon as possible and not delay." Zhao Wei said that once a child's teeth have problems that parents cannot solve, such as pigmentation or caries that cannot be brushed off with a toothbrush, parents should first find a specialist to identify the cause and then provide appropriate treatment.

Generally speaking, the best time to conduct oral health education is within one year old. Parents can learn the eating and hygiene habits that maintain their children's oral health by visiting specialists, discovering oral problems as early as possible and dealing with them in a timely manner, which will be more effective. If you miss this time, it will be more difficult to correct it later.

"If a problem that could have been solved by brushing teeth, gargling or some simple methods is delayed until later and has to be treated with medical equipment, the time and cost of treatment will be greatly increased, and the treatment effect will also be affected accordingly."

Experts say that in order for children to have beautiful white teeth, it is necessary to go to the dentist for a follow-up every 3-6 months after birth. In addition, you should pay attention to timely and effective oral cleaning on a daily basis: as soon as the baby is born, use gauze or latex finger cots to gently wipe the gums;

Start brushing teeth immediately after teeth erupt; after the age of 2, you must use a bristled toothbrush and a swallowable cleaning toothpaste; when the child learns to spit, you should switch to a toothpaste with better cleaning effects to clean the mouth; remember to clean the gums and tongue while brushing teeth. Avoid bad eating habits and eat less sweet, sticky and colored foods. Eating more foods rich in crude fiber can not only exercise children's chewing ability, but also clean teeth and promote healthy tooth growth.
