Why does an 8-year-old boy urinate frequently?

If an eight-year-old boy has frequent urination, parents should pay attention. There are many reasons for this symptom in children. For example, drinking too much water often leads to increased urine volume. In addition, mental factors are also a common factor. For example, if a child is nervous or fearful, this phenomenon may also occur. We should be alert to some inflammatory causes, such as urethritis, balanitis, etc.

Increased urine output:

If a child's urine volume increases due to various reasons and the bladder capacity remains unchanged, the child can only expel the increased urine by increasing the frequency of urination, thus causing frequent urination. This situation can be physiological, such as drinking a lot of water or beverages, consuming too much protein food and fruits, causing increased urine volume.

Various beverages, dairy products, etc. sold on the market contain a certain amount of sugar. After consuming such drinks, the sugar will be quickly absorbed into the blood, causing the blood sugar concentration to increase. If parents give their children these drinks without restriction, it can cause hyperosmotic diuresis, because when the body excretes these sugars, the high concentration of sugar will inevitably carry away a large amount of water, leading to frequent urination.

It can also be pathological, such as polydipsia and polyuria caused by diseases such as diabetes and diabetes insipidus. In addition, it can also be caused by drugs. For example, in children with edema and ascites, the use of diuretics and dehydrating agents will increase urine volume. The characteristic of this type of frequent urination caused by increased urine volume is that although it is frequent urination, the amount of urine each time is large.

Mental factors:

Some children who are easily excited and overly sensitive may experience simple frequent urination. Parents often find that these children often urinate frequently and urgently when they are nervous, such as when they are scolded, or when they are too excited before bedtime and have trouble falling asleep. The amount of urine each time is very small, but it is not accompanied by other discomfort symptoms.

If parents see their children's frequent urination symptoms and repeatedly blame or even insult their children, the frequent urination symptoms will become more and more severe; once the child falls asleep, enuresis generally does not occur. This simple symptom of frequent urination is caused by mental factors. The frequent urination caused by this reason is usually a short-term phenomenon. Once the mental factors causing frequent urination are eliminated, the symptoms will disappear immediately and return to normal.

Inflammatory irritation:

Under normal circumstances, when the amount of urine in the bladder reaches a certain capacity, the sensory nerves are stimulated, causing the urge to urinate, and urination is carried out under conscious control. When the vulva, foreskin, urethra, bladder, etc. are infected, the local inflammation causes the nerve sensitivity to increase, the urination center is always in an excited state, and frequent urination occurs.

The characteristics of frequent urination at this time are: the child simply urinates too often, but the total urine volume does not increase, and is accompanied by symptoms such as urinary pain and difficulty urinating.

Reduced bladder capacity:

If the total daily urine volume remains normal but the total bladder volume decreases, the frequency of urination will increase, resulting in frequent urination. The following two situations are common.

The bladder itself has reduced capacity. Such as the presence of foreign bodies, tumor growth or other large space-occupying lesions in the bladder, or bladder atrophy caused by chronic bladder inflammation such as bladder tuberculosis.

A decrease in the effective bladder capacity. This is mainly seen in children with lower urinary tract obstruction due to congenital urinary tract malformations. Because there is a large amount of residual urine in the bladder, which occupies part of the bladder volume, the frequent urination is continuous and the amount of urine each time is very small.

other:

Some boys have foreskin that is too long, which can easily cause urea to deposit in the foreskin, causing balanitis and resulting in symptoms of frequent urination. Usually, you should pay attention to cleaning the dirt inside the foreskin in time to prevent infection.

Some children also have frequent urination due to pinworms irritating the genitals. In addition, there are also seasonal factors, such as less sweating and more frequent urination in winter.
