Causes of black teeth in children

Causes of black teeth in children

In life, many children often encounter the problem of black teeth. Black teeth may have some surface pigmentation. In addition, they do not brush their teeth or rinse their mouths after meals, like to eat sweet things before going to bed, and still do not rinse their mouths. Finally, the teeth are damaged and dental problems occur. If children have dental problems, it may accompany them for life. As parents, we need to pay attention and take good care of our children's teeth.

Many children have some pigmentation on the surface of their teeth. What is the reason?

There are black deposits on the surface of teeth that cannot be brushed off even with brushing. There may be some reasons as follows, but first let’s talk about the sulfur element in food. Most foods contain sulfur, and the highest content is found in foods such as leeks, onions, and garlic. If you do not brush your teeth in time after a meal, or the food residue is affected by bacteria, the sulfur element will be released to react chemically with iron or lead to form a water-insoluble black precipitate that adheres to the surface of the teeth.

1. Failure to rinse the mouth in time after taking iron supplements for anemia causes the iron remaining in the mouth to react with the sulfur in the food in the mouth to form black ferrous sulfide deposits that are insoluble in water. Therefore, children who take iron supplements (usually iron supplements are taken after meals) should drink some water and rinse their mouths after taking the medicine to prevent their teeth from turning black.

2. If the lead load in the child's body is high, the lead element in the mouth will react with the sulfur element in the food to form insoluble lead sulfide precipitates, which are also black and difficult to scrape off even by dentists using professional tools. But when treated with lead-removing medication, your teeth will get whiter day by day, even if you don’t take any other measures! Because the drug penetrates into the mouth and acts on the surface of the teeth to dissolve the black lead sulfide, the teeth are whitened.

3. Also, if the mercury load in the child's body is high, the teeth will also turn black. The reason is that the mercury in the saliva reacts with the sulfur element in the food to form a water-insoluble black precipitate, which will also cause the teeth to turn black.

There are many reasons for the blackening of teeth. Some of them are caused by pigmentation. These situations are especially prone to occur in patients who often drink strong tea and smoke. These tea stains and cigarette stains will adhere to the surface of the teeth and turn black over time.

However, some patients have black and missing teeth due to caries. Caries will appear on the surface of the teeth and cause lesions of varying depths. From the outside, they look like black spots. These are the symptoms of caries.

Tooth decay can easily appear in the fine cracks of pits and fissures. At the beginning, the patient's pits and fissures are lighter in color, and the color will gradually deepen, and then tooth decay will form, causing cavities.

After the teeth turn black, it is easy to form caries. During this period, we must repair them in time to prevent the occurrence of caries. If caries are allowed to develop, it may even damage our dental pulp and cause more serious consequences.

The occurrence of dental caries will affect our diet and daily life. After dental caries occur, we will be particularly sensitive to the hot, cold, sour and sweet taste of food. Any slight change will cause pain and affect our eating habits. Dental caries will also evolve into many oral diseases, so we must treat them in time and try to avoid the development of dental caries.
