Why does my baby often strain?

Because after the baby is born, the mother will definitely be with the baby every day, so if the baby has any problems, the mother will know it at the first time and help the baby solve it. Many mothers have said that their children are easily awakened when they are sleeping, and that they seem to be pooping while sleeping, constantly exerting force, and sometimes even making humming sounds. So what's the matter with babies often straining?

Nervous system is not yet fully developed

Newborns are protected by the uterus and amniotic fluid in the mother's body, and have been curled up there to grow safely. However, immediately after birth, they are stimulated by the external environment, and all their sensory organs need to accept new challenges. The stimulation brought by these challenges is often transmitted to the brain nerves. In addition, the feedback functions of the brain and nervous system are not mature enough, so the baby needs a process of gradual adaptation to the environment.

During this process, the gurgling sound of the gastrointestinal tract, the meowing of the cat next door, the humming of the wind outside the window, the air convection of the air conditioner touching the skin, the slight vibration of the floor when walking, the changes in the room temperature and your own body temperature...

These may be magnified in the baby's perceptual world, so we should not be too nervous. As they grow older, these situations will gradually disappear. Of course, we should not deliberately eliminate these environments. If we lose the stimulation of these natural living environments and deliberately protect our babies with a "super home", it will prolong the baby's adaptation period and make the nerves more sensitive.

Underdeveloped digestive system

After a baby is born, he or she first has a strong need to eat. Since nutrition is no longer directly supplied through the umbilical cord, this process also requires an adaptation period. The first three months after a baby is born is the period of fastest growth.

The characteristics of this stage are eating a lot, defecating frequently and growing fast, so the burden on the gastrointestinal tract is quite heavy. You will often see your baby's stomach rumbling, and they will also strain and twist their bodies, which are also related to this process. When straining, they like to hold their breath, and it is normal for their little face to turn red.

Transition between deep sleep and light sleep

Young babies have shorter sleep cycles and faster transitions. Many babies in the first three months will switch every 20-45 minutes. During the transition of sleep cycles, humming, straining, crying, etc. may occur, just like adults stretching, rolling around, and even yawning at night. These conditions will get better with the increase of age, and the babies will sleep longer and longer.
