Babies get angry after drinking glucose

Glucose has many uses. Many people buy glucose powder and then add water to it at home. Taking glucose before exercise can improve athletic performance and increase physical strength, reduce the risk of injury, and increase fitness effects. However, some people give glucose to their babies, which we do not recommend because babies will have symptoms of getting angry after drinking glucose. So, why is this happening?

1. Will babies get angry when eating glucose?

Glucose is a monosaccharide, which is easier to digest than lactose and galactose, and can be easily broken down into energy, so babies generally do not get a sore throat after eating glucose. However, you must drink plenty of water, and also be careful not to consume too much glucose, just the right amount is fine.

Generally, babies should not eat too much glucose. They should eat as little as possible or even not eat it, because the human small intestine can directly absorb glucose. Although eating glucose can reduce the burden on the intestine, the function of the intestine to secrete other digestive enzymes will degenerate because the small intestine can directly absorb glucose. Over time, it will cause the function of intestinal digestive enzymes to decline, affecting the digestion and absorption of food. And healthy babies should not eat glucose frequently. Only infants who lack amylase in their bodies can take glucose in appropriate amounts, but they should also take it under the guidance of a doctor.

Experts say: Mothers can give their babies some boiled water between meals to increase water intake, moisten the mouth, and reduce phlegm in the throat, without the need to use sweetened glucose water. Because, often giving babies glucose water will bring some unexpected adverse effects to babies: early entry into the anorexia period, easy damage to the surface of teeth, forming bad habits of eating sweets, and developing bad habits of picky eating.

2. The role of glucose

The central nervous system relies almost entirely on blood sugar as energy. Once blood sugar drops to 80 mg%, diabetes may occur. Glucose is produced industrially by hydrolysis of starch. In the 1960s, microbial enzyme method was used to produce glucose. This is a major innovation and has obvious advantages over acid hydrolysis. During production, the raw materials do not need to be refined, and no acid-resistant or pressure-resistant equipment is required. The sugar solution has no bitterness and has a high sugar yield. Glucose is mainly used as an injectable nutrient in medicine (glucose injection); in the food industry, glucose can be used to produce fructose after being treated with isomerase, especially fructose syrup containing 42% fructose, which has the same sweetness as sucrose and has become an important product in the current sugar industry.

Glucose is an indispensable nutrient for metabolism in living organisms. The heat released by its oxidation reaction is an important source of energy required for human life activities. It can be used directly in the food and pharmaceutical industries, as a reducing agent in the printing and dyeing leather industry, and glucose is often used as a reducing agent in the mirror industry and in the silver plating process of thermos flasks. Glucose is also used in large quantities in industry as a raw material to synthesize vitamin C (ascorbic acid).
