Baby's stool has egg drop shape and mucus

Baby's stool has egg drop shape and mucus

In the process of caring for a baby, since the baby cannot express his or her feelings and physical condition, the mother has to rely on the mother's care and observation of the baby. In fact, the baby's health condition can be judged based on the baby's stool condition. When the baby's stool is abnormally bleeding, it is best for the mother to take the baby's stool to the hospital for testing, so that the judgment of the baby's physical health will be more accurate.

What should I do if my baby's stool is egg-drop-shaped and has mucus?

The child's stool needs to be tested first to determine whether the increased frequency of bowel movements and the presence of mucus are caused by infection or non-infection (indigestion, etc.) reasons. (As a reminder, if stool is tested, the sample should be sent for testing within 1 hour. The stool sample should not be taken from a diaper, and the container holding the sample should be clean.) Targeted treatment can be given to different causes to achieve relief.

The relationship between baby's stool and baby's health

1. Constipation

On the premise that infants and young children have normal appetite, and their height and weight development are up to standard, if babies who are fed with formula milk experience dry stools, difficulty in defecation and constipation, it is often related to poor digestion of milk powder.

In general, the number of bowel movements varies depending on the baby's physical condition; for constipation, a very strict definition is bowel movements ≤ 2 times a week, and the stool is in the form of dry, hard pills. The gastrointestinal tract of infants and young children is not fully developed. The large molecular milk protein and palm oil in the fat in ordinary formula milk are not easy to digest, which may cause constipation.

2. Diarrhea

Common causes of chronic diarrhea are poor digestion of lactose or protein. When a baby's gastrointestinal tract is immature or has diarrhea, there may not be enough lactase in the intestines to digest lactose. If you eat too much lactose at this time, it will not be digested. The undigested lactose will absorb water from the body tissues in the baby's intestines and cause diarrhea.

The milk protein in ordinary milk powder is a large molecular protein, which is not easy to digest and can irritate the intestines, causing digestive discomfort symptoms such as chronic diarrhea.

3. Foamy stool

The stool is foamy or has a slightly sour smell. At the same time, the baby is in good spirits and has a good appetite, and his height and weight are developing normally. The reason is usually carbohydrate indigestion.

If your baby who drinks milk powder has foamy stools, you can try switching to a low-lactose or lactose-free formula. Some babies are born with a lactase deficiency or have a temporary lack of lactase secretion due to incomplete intestinal development, and cannot digest and absorb lactose well. Ordinary milk powder has a high lactose content. Undigested lactose will remain in the baby's intestinal cavity, causing fluid and electrolytes to enter the intestinal cavity, resulting in osmotic diarrhea and dehydration.

If the curds in the baby's stool are no larger than a grain of rice, it is generally considered to be within the normal range and the mother does not need to worry too much. However, when the curds in the stool are larger than rice grains, parents should pay enough attention. In fact, curds are formed when the baby cannot digest protein. The undigested protein combines with the minerals in the food to form curds.
