Children have relatively weak resistance, so it is inevitable that they will get sick and catch a cold. Among the symptoms of a cold, cough is the most stubborn and is one of the most painful symptoms for children. If the cough is not serious, parents will give their children some cold medicine. Parents can search the Internet for detailed information on children's cough suppressants, but coughs are divided into different types, and only the right medicine will be effective.

Chinese medicine

Chinese patent medicine has the advantages of good efficacy, easy administration and few side effects. Here we introduce several commonly used children's cough and phlegm-relieving medicines.

1. Children's cough elixirs

The ingredients are bitter almond (fried), Arisaema consanguineum, Perilla seed, scorched betel nut, Platycodon grandiflorum, Scrophularia ningpoensis, Ophiopogon japonicus, Morus alba bark, Fritillaria cirrhosa, Trichosanthes seed, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, bamboo leaves, etc. It is mainly used to treat fever, cough with yellow sputum, dry mouth, abdominal distension and constipation. Take 1/2 to 1 pill each time, twice a day.

2. Snake Gallbladder and Fritillaria Powder

The ingredients are Fritillaria cirrhosa and snake bile. It is mainly used to treat lung heat, cough and excessive sputum. Take 1/3 to 1/2 stick each time, twice a day.

3. Acute bronchitis syrup

The ingredients include golden buckwheat, evergreen, houttuynia cordata, and peucedanum chinense. It is mainly used to treat acute bronchitis, cough after cold, paroxysmal cough at night, acute attack of chronic bronchitis, uncomfortable sputum and other respiratory diseases. 5 to 10 ml each time, 3 times a day.

4. Shema oral liquid

The ingredients include Belamcanda chinensis, Ephedra sinica, Apricot kernel, Gypsum gypsum, etc. It is mainly used to treat pneumonia cough, excessive sputum, itchy throat and cough, etc. 5-10 ml each time, twice a day.

5. Children's Qingfei Huatan Oral Liquid

Ingredients: Ephedra, Peucedanum, Scutellaria, Perilla,

Gypsum, bitter almonds (peeled and fried), scutellaria baicalensis seeds, and bamboo shavings. It is mainly used to treat shortness of breath, cough, sputum, and noise in the throat caused by lung heat and cold in children. Orally, 2 to 3 times a day, shake well before use. For children under 1 year old, 3 ml each time; for children aged 1 to 5 years old, 10 ml each time; for children over 5 years old, 15 to 20 ml each time.

6. Children's Lung Clearing Oral Liquid (Pediatric Medicine)

The ingredients are ephedra, bitter almonds (peeled and fried), gypsum, licorice, mulberry bark (honey-roasted), melon peel, scutellaria baicalensis, isatis root, pinellia ternata, and thunbergia thunbergii. It is mainly used to treat red face, hot body, cough, excessive sputum and sore throat. Oral administration, 20 ml each time, 10 ml each time for children under 6 years old, 3 times a day.

Western medicine

1. Pholcodine (Pholcodine)

It has antitussive, analgesic and sedative effects and is often used for severe dry cough. After use, infants and young children will not suffer from digestive dysfunction and constipation, but may occasionally experience nausea and drowsiness. This medicine should not be taken for a long time to prevent addiction, and must be stored in a sealed place away from light.

2. Cough Quickly (Benproperine)

It is very effective for irritating dry cough. It takes effect 15 to 60 minutes after taking it and the effect can last for 4 to 7 hours. It is often used for acute bronchitis, etc. Swallow the tablet with water when taking it. Do not chew the tablet to avoid numbness in the mouth. Occasionally, there may be reactions such as dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, loss of appetite and drug rash after taking the medicine. It is contraindicated for those who are allergic to it.

3. Kebiqing (Vinyl, Pentotheline)

It is mostly used for dry cough caused by upper respiratory tract inflammation, and is more effective for infants and young children than for adults. Taking the medicine once can maintain the therapeutic effect for 4 to 6 hours, but it is not suitable for babies with phlegm.

4. Compound Kebiqing Sugar Water

Because it contains ammonium chloride, which can reduce phlegm, it is especially suitable for babies who have difficulty coughing up phlegm, but it should be used with caution in patients with heart failure.

5. Aishu (Guaietan pseudoephedrine oral solution)

This medicine not only has the dual mechanism of expectoration and cough relief, but also can relieve postnasal drip syndrome caused by nasal congestion and runny nose, saving the baby from the trouble of long-term cough.
