What to do if your eight-month-old baby falls on his head

The growing world of children is always full of curiosity, and everyone will inevitably pay more attention to the growth and development of children. Eight-month-old babies have begun to crawl gradually, but their crawling method is not very stable at this time, so they will inevitably fall from high places and hit their heads easily. If they fall on their heads, they must be checked in time, stay calm, and don't be too anxious.

What can parents do?

1. Stay calm

Parents should not be too panicky or anxious to pick up the baby from the ground, and should not move too violently to avoid causing other unnecessary injuries. All mothers need to do is hug him gently and comfort him. Children's short-term pain usually does not exceed 10 minutes. If they can play as usual afterwards, there is no need to worry too much. If your baby keeps crying and soothing is ineffective, and cries for more than 1 hour, seek medical attention immediately.

2. Observe the baby's condition

Do not pick up or move the child immediately; observe the child where he/she is while ensuring the surroundings are safe. If the baby can cry loudly immediately after falling, has a normal complexion, cries loudly, and responds when called, the possibility of brain injury is generally low. Babies are most afraid of falling on the back of their heads. If they fall face down, the danger is generally less.

Ensure the surrounding environment is safe and observe on the spot

Check the baby's injuries carefully to see if there is any bleeding where the baby fell. Check the baby's head, limbs and body to see if there are bruises, swellings or other abnormalities. Grasp the baby's injuries in a timely and correct manner.

(1) If your baby has a swelling or bruise, even if the swelling becomes very large in a short period of time, apply a cool towel to the injured area to reduce swelling and relieve pain.

(2) If your baby has a small wound that is bleeding, you should immediately apply gentle pressure to the bleeding wound with a clean cloth. Moreover, the baby's scalp and face have abundant blood vessels, so the bleeding will be more than other places and the bleeding will stop faster than other places, so mothers don't need to worry too much. If there is a major wound, after emergency treatment, send to the hospital in time.

3. Observe whether the baby is sleepy

Do not let your baby sleep within 2-3 hours after falling on the head. Even if he wants to sleep, you cannot let him sleep. If there is a serious head injury, he will easily fall asleep and be difficult to wake up after falling asleep, which will delay precious treatment time. In addition, if the baby falls asleep after 3 hours, wake him up once an hour or so to observe whether he is drowsy, difficult to wake up, and other symptoms.

4. Close observation for 72 hours

Anyone who falls on the head, regardless of how severe the symptoms are at the time, should be closely observed for 72 hours, during which time the person should be observed for vomiting, mental state, listlessness, irritability, or being too quiet. If any abnormality occurs, go to the hospital immediately for medical evaluation.
