What to do if your nine-month-old baby has rhinitis

Rhinitis is a very common disease. I believe that a large number of people in life suffer from rhinitis. Rhinitis can make people feel nasal congestion, and some may even have symptoms such as nasal congestion or runny nose. Nine-month-old babies are very sensitive to bacteria and fungi in the air. If the nasal mucosa is infected by bacteria, rhinitis may occur. Let's take a look at what to do if your nine-month-old baby has rhinitis?

Children's chronic rhinitis is mainly treated with medication, such as oral Tongqiao Rhinitis Granules or nasal spray such as mometasone furoate nasal spray or budesonide spray, and then combined with daily maintenance. If it is allergic rhinitis, you also need to take anti-allergic drugs, such as oral loratadine tablets or montelukast sodium tablets. You need to avoid colds and chills at ordinary times. Some children also have nasal polyps or sinusitis and need further treatment, especially those with nasal polyps who need surgical treatment.

1. What to do if you have a lot of runny nose

Be careful if you have a lot of runny nose as it may be caused by inflammation. Many times, some parents always regard the baby's runny nose as a cold, and let the child take some cold medicine, but it has no effect, and the runny nose is still a lot, so what should I do if the nose is runny?

Little do people know that excessive nasal discharge may also be caused by sinusitis. Let’s take a look at why sinusitis causes excessive nasal discharge and what harm it may cause. The culprit for creating "slugs" is children's sinusitis. There are four pairs of bony sinuses on the upper and posterior sides of the nasal cavity, collectively called paranasal sinuses, which are all connected to the nasal cavity through small sinus openings. Once various bacteria and fungi invade the mucosa of the sinus cavity and cause inflammatory lesions in the sinus cavity, sinusitis occurs.

According to relevant statistics, about 50% of seemingly healthy children had sinus lesions in sinus X-rays, and at least 1/3 of them had purulent mucus in the sinus cavity.

2. How to treat a runny nose?

Experts point out: If the baby has a constant runny nose, parents should not worry. If the baby still has a stuffy nose and purulent discharge a week after recovering from a common cold, you should consider whether the baby has sinusitis and should go to the ENT department of the hospital for a check-up and diagnosis. Parents can help their children with local hot compresses and nasal steam inhalation at home to improve the symptoms of sinusitis.

Children's sinusitis is generally treated conservatively with nasal drops or sprays and oral medications. During the treatment process, parents should never buy nasal drops and anti-inflammatory drugs for their children at the pharmacy. Because pharmacies usually sell adult-strength medicines that are not suitable for children. For children with persistent sinusitis, maxillary sinus puncture can be performed and a catheter can be placed for 5 to 7 days to flush the sinus cavity. If there are other nasal diseases, such as deviated nasal septum, nasal polyps, etc., you should follow the doctor's advice and choose the appropriate time for surgical treatment.

3. Methods for preventing and treating sinusitis

Exercise, maintain a balanced diet, strengthen your physical fitness, improve your resistance, wear warm and appropriate clothing to reduce the occurrence of colds and other acute infectious diseases, and avoid swelling of the sinus mucosa that affects ventilation and drainage. Do not insert foreign objects into the nasal cavity, correct the bad habit of picking your nose, and reduce nasal trauma. Babies with special physical conditions, such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, etc., should try to avoid allergens and actively treat the primary disease. Avoid swimming or diving in unclean water to prevent bacteria from entering your sinuses.
