It is very common for babies to have a bloated belly. Generally speaking, this bloating can be divided into two types. One is physiological bloating, which is caused by feeding. One is pathological abdominal distension, which requires going to the hospital in time to find out the cause and receive treatment. Of course, parents can also judge whether the baby has symptoms of abdominal distension in certain ways, such as touching with their hands, observing the symptoms, and watching the bowel movements and farts.
Normal newborns often have a mild or obvious abdominal bulge after feeding, and sometimes there is milk regurgitation, but the baby is quiet, the abdomen is soft, no lumps can be felt, the bowel movements are normal, and the growth and development are good. This is usually called "physiological abdominal distension." This is because the newborn's abdominal wall muscles are thin, have low tension, and produce more gas in the digestive tract. However, if the abdominal distension is obvious, accompanied by frequent vomiting, the baby is in poor spirits, does not eat, the abdominal wall is hard, shiny and red, small blood vessels can be seen exposed (medically known as varicose veins), and lumps can be felt; some are accompanied by jaundice, white stools, bloody stools, tarry stools, fever or the above-mentioned "five no" symptoms, these are all manifestations of the disease and you should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible. In addition, the baby's stomach makes rumbling sounds, which are bowel sounds, mainly caused by swallowing a large amount of air when feeding. They are the sounds made by gas and liquid with intestinal peristalsis. It is recommended that every time the mother breastfeeds or feeds the baby, the baby's head should be slightly elevated and the nipple hole should be filled with milk to prevent the baby from inhaling too much air. After the baby finishes feeding, sit him upright and pat his back until he burps. Burping can help expel the air inhaled into the stomach while sucking milk, which will alleviate this symptom.
(1) Touch with your hands The baby's stomach bloating will affect appetite and digestion, so parents should pay attention to whether the baby has stomach bloating in daily life. So, how do you tell if your baby is bloated? Parents can judge by touching the baby's belly and observing the baby's daily behavior. First, you can touch: 1. Let the baby lie down and gently press the belly with your hand. If it feels soft, it means there is no abdominal distension. 2. If your stomach feels hard and bulging, you may have bloating. (II) Performance How to judge whether the baby has bloating: observe the baby's daily behavior, such as whether the baby's diet and sleep are normal. Specific analysis: 1. If the baby is eating, sleeping and moving well, this is normal and no special treatment is needed. Refusing to drink milk and crying; 2. Sometimes all the milk you drink is vomited out very quickly, or even vomited obviously, which means that the abdominal distension is serious and you should go to the hospital for treatment.
You can also tell whether your baby has bloating by looking at his farts and bowel movements. Some babies will fart, which is a typical sign of flatulence. Usually the gas and bloating will subside after your baby passes gas and has a bowel movement. Parents can use massage to relieve symptoms: 1. First, let the baby lie down in a comfortable position, place one hand on the upper abdomen below the baby's ribs and slide down to the legs. 2. Use the same technique with your other hand and gradually increase the strength depending on the baby's acceptance. 3. Place the thumbs of both hands on both sides of the belly button, and push outward in parallel from the center. The force should be slow, gentle, soft and round to relieve the baby's bloating and constipation problems. |
