What complementary foods should babies not eat? These foods should be avoided

Many parents will feed their babies what they think is good, but sometimes what they think is good may not be good for the baby's body. For example, some seafood, although rich in nutrition, is easy to cause allergies for babies. Therefore, the right food for children may not be the best.

1. Foods that are likely to cause allergies

Egg white: The protein molecules in egg white are small and can sometimes pass through the intestinal wall directly into the baby's blood, causing the baby's body to have an allergic reaction to foreign protein molecules, leading to diseases such as eczema and urticaria.

Marine fish with high mercury content: Although marine fish are rich in nutrients and contain a lot of DHA, due to the accumulation of the food chain, marine fish contain more methylmercury. Eating them may affect the baby's nervous system development. When eating fish, try to avoid eating fish with high mercury content or larger fish, such as shark, swordfish, marlin, catfish, tilapia, golden eye snapper and tuna, especially bigeye tuna and bluefin tuna.

Shell seafood: Crabs, shrimps and other shell seafood can cause allergic symptoms in babies and should not be fed to babies before the age of 1.

2. Foods that can easily cause loss of appetite

Strong-flavored condiments such as shacha sauce, tomato sauce, chili sauce, mustard, MSG, or excessive sugar can easily increase the burden on the baby's kidneys and interfere with the body's absorption of other nutrients. In addition, foods such as chili, pepper, onion, garlic, ginger, and sauerkraut can easily damage the delicate oral, esophageal, and gastric mucosa and should not be eaten.

3. Strong stimulating food

Mineral water: The baby's digestive system is not fully developed and the filtration function is poor. The mineral content in mineral water is too high, which can easily cause increased osmotic pressure and increase the burden on the kidneys.

Functional drinks: Most functional drinks are rich in electrolytes. However, because the baby's metabolism and excretion functions are not yet perfect, too many electrolytes will cause the baby's liver, kidneys and heart to be unable to bear it, increasing the risk of children suffering from high blood pressure, arrhythmia, or damage to liver and kidney function.

Caffeinated drinks: Cola, coffee, strong tea, etc. contain too much sugar or caffeine and have no nutritional value. They can easily cause tooth decay and affect the baby's sense of taste. They can also make people excited, make children restless, and even affect the baby's biological clock.

4. High-fat and high-sugar foods

Strictly speaking, babies should not be given snacks in the early stages of complementary feeding, especially snacks containing additives and pigments, such as chocolate, candy and other snacks. These things have little nutrition and high sugar content, and can easily destroy the baby's taste buds and cause tooth decay.

5. Foods that are difficult to digest

Vegetables that are difficult to digest: The digestive function of infants is not fully developed, so it is best to wait until the baby is older before feeding him vegetables that are difficult to digest, such as bamboo shoots and burdock. In addition, vegetable stems that contain too much fiber should not be fed to babies.

Meats that are difficult to digest: Octopus and cuttlefish are difficult to digest, so it is best not to feed them to babies under one year old.
