Thyroid enlargement in children

Thyroid enlargement in children

There are many reasons for goiter in children. It may be caused by iodine deficiency in the body. Iodine deficiency can lead to insufficient secretion of thyroid hormones, which can cause symptoms of hyperthyroidism. The patient will also experience a drop in body temperature and a loss of appetite. However, goiter is an autoimmune disease caused by dietary problems and viral invasion, so we must regulate it in time.

What causes thyroid enlargement in children?

1. The body lacks iodine. Iodine is an important raw material for synthesizing thyroid hormones. If children lack iodine, it will lead to a lack of thyroid hormones in the body, causing goiter. If children over-supplement iodine, it will cause excessive thyroid hormones in the body, and finally cause hyperthyroidism. Therefore, extra attention should be paid to iodine supplementation for children.

2. Environment and diet. Long-term exposure to polluted environments or eating foods that pollute water and land can cause children to suffer from goiter. Diet is mainly due to studies showing that certain foods contain goitrogenic substances. If consumed in large quantities and for a long time, goitrogenic substances will form in the body. If children eat these foods for a long time, it will cause goiter.

3. Self-immunity. Immunity is the foundation of a person's resistance to viral invasion. The higher the immunity, the lower the chance of contracting the disease. If the child is not well taken care of, resulting in fever, cold, etc., it is easy to cause the child's immunity to decrease, thereby causing the occurrence of thyroid enlargement. Therefore, in life, you can let the child exercise more, pay attention to keeping the child warm, improve the child's immunity, and reduce the incidence of thyroid enlargement.
