What to do if your 9-month-old baby has anorexia

When the baby is just born, generally speaking, he or she feeds breast milk. However, some mothers do not have enough milk and will feed their babies with milk powder. However, the milk powder they choose is not suitable for the baby, and the baby will easily become anorexic. Moreover, during the growth process, the baby's body will gradually become thin and lack nutrition, which is very detrimental to growth. Therefore, in this case, the mother must choose meals suitable for the baby, or she can make some complementary food for the baby.

Among children with anorexia, 86% are caused by non-disease factors, only 9% are caused by disease factors, and 5% are caused by other reasons. Many parents do not understand this and when they see their children eat less, become thin and have yellow complexions, they take their children to several large hospitals to see experts, hoping to find a panacea that can cure the disease. In the end, they spend a lot of money and take a lot of medicine, but are disappointed because the child's condition remains the same and their appetite has not increased. This is because the anorexia suffered by most children is not caused by any disease, so drug treatment will not be effective. Some may even make anorexia worse, because all medicines are toxic and each drug has its side effects and toxicity. For anorexia caused by non-disease factors, drugs cannot play a therapeutic role, but they can exert their side effects and toxicity. Therefore, parents should not blindly give their children medicines, otherwise it will backfire.

If anorexia is caused by a disease, a physical examination and relevant laboratory tests by a pediatrician or health care doctor can eventually identify the primary disease causing anorexia, and then the appropriate medicine can be prescribed. Once the primary disease is cured, anorexia will disappear. For example, common zinc deficiency often presents with anorexia. If a blood zinc test confirms that the zinc content is indeed low, and oral zinc preparations (zinc gluconate oral solution, zinc sulfate, etc.) are taken, after one month, the blood zinc level will be replenished to normal levels and the child's appetite will increase greatly.

Other diseases such as iron deficiency anemia and intestinal parasitic diseases are easy to diagnose and have specific medications to treat them, so the prognosis is very good. Therefore, when a child suffers from anorexia, parents should not be anxious, should not blindly give medicine, and should not believe the sweet words of witch doctors. Because most anorexia is caused by non-disease factors, there is no need to use medication for these children. Instead, they should start by improving their eating habits, limiting cold drinks, eating sweets, eating on time, living a regular life, getting enough sleep, and having regular bowel movements. These methods may seem ordinary, but they are indeed a "good remedy" for these children with anorexia.
