What are the symptoms of gout in children?

Everyone may think that gout is a disease of middle-aged and elderly people, but children can also suffer from gout after being exposed to some stimulation. Since children's joints and other parts are not yet fully developed, gout can cause great harm. Therefore, it is very necessary for everyone to have a certain understanding of this in order to play a preventive role. Next, the editor will introduce the symptoms that children will experience after suffering from gout.

1. Acute gouty arthritis This is the most characteristic and common symptom of gout. It has an acute onset and the affected joints will show obvious redness, swelling, heat and pain within a few hours. It often occurs at night and the patient wakes up due to severe joint pain. The local joint cannot be touched due to pain, and even the bed sheet cannot be covered, and movement is limited. The most common site of infection is the first metatarsal toe of the foot, followed by other small joints of the hands and feet, ankles, knees, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. In the early stage, it is mostly a single joint lesion, occurring alternately on both sides. In the later stage, it may be multiple joint lesions, appearing simultaneously or successively. Surgery, trauma, pressure around the joints, and uncomfortable shoes can all be triggering factors. The symptoms of acute attacks usually last for more than a week. After the local redness and swelling of the joints subside, the skin may become itchy, peeling, and pigmented. During the attack period, systemic symptoms may include fever, fatigue, rapid heart rate, headache, etc.

2. Gout interictal period Gout interictal period refers to the period between two attacks of acute gouty arthritis, which can be as short as a few weeks or as long as several decades. Occasionally, some patients never have another attack of acute arthritis after the first one, but most of the time, the symptoms gradually shorten. The condition is relatively stable during the intermittent period, which is also called the quiescent state. Some patients may experience discomfort after moving the affected joints, which can be relieved after rest. Hyperuricemia may still occur, and the blood uric acid level is unstable due to the influence of diet and treatment.

The above content is the discomfort reaction that can be caused by this disease. The editor describes each situation in great detail, so it is easy to understand. Everyone must read carefully. If you find that your child has similar symptoms, you must be vigilant. It is best to check the joints in time so that they can be treated as soon as possible.
