What to do if a five-year-old child stutters

For many children nowadays, when they are 1 to 2 years old, they are learning to speak. Some parents like to amuse their children, so they deliberately learn to stutter. However, this is very detrimental to the children's future speech. In fact, many parents will find that children aged 2 to 7 will have stuttering problems, which is what we often call stuttering. So what should we do if a 5-year-old child stutters?

Generally speaking, children will experience stuttering during the entire period of learning to speak between the ages of 2 to 7, which is different from stuttering disease. Do not try to correct your child's stuttering deliberately, and never rashly label your child as a "stutterer." This will only lead the child's stuttering phenomenon into stuttering disease and become a real stutterer.

Correction of stuttering in children is mainly through the guidance of parents and relatives, starting from eliminating the causes of stuttering and bad language habits.

There are several specific methods, you can choose according to the specific situation of your child:

1. Correct demonstration method: Use a kind and gentle expression and attitude, calmly say a sentence, and let the child follow and learn it. If the child does not speak well at the beginning, do not be impatient and guide him patiently. When the child makes a little progress, praise and encourage him immediately: "Yes, just speak slowly like this. Look, you have improved compared to yesterday."

Note: Speak softly, articulate clearly, continuously and at a steady speed, and do not speak in a discontinuous manner.

1. Singing and reading method: Let children listen to more children's songs with beautiful voices, fluent expressions and lively content. For example, children's stories and children's poems, after they have become familiar with them, let the children read and recite along. You can consciously sing songs, recite texts, and sing nursery rhymes with your children to help them master the rhythm of the language. Then further guide him to speak at the rhythm of reading the text, and transition little by little.

2. Slow conversation method: When your child talks to you, let him speak slowly, especially the first sentence or even the first word, which should be spoken slower and slower. You should listen very patiently, don't interrupt or replace what the child wants to say with your own words. When your child finishes speaking, wait a second or two before responding. Answer the child slowly, and try to use the same words the child just used. When you have this intentional conversation with your child, the most important thing is to try to show your love for him.

Xi'an Huaxia Language Stuttering Correction Center will definitely achieve normal speech ability through comprehensive intensive training in stages such as psychological therapy, breath-voice coordination, language training, and environmental adaptation, and systematic correction.

If you want your child to cure stuttering, you should practice speaking slowly, follow the words of adults, and teach your children to use Mandarin correctly, because early stuttering can be corrected in time.
