What should I do if my child gets bruised?

Children are a group of people who are very prone to getting bruised, because today's children are very energetic and love to play and fight everywhere. They have no sense of safety and do not know how to protect themselves while playing. Therefore, bruises on the face, legs, hands and other parts of the body are easily caused by collisions. So how should bruises on the skin be dealt with?

What should I do if my child gets bruised?

1. Ice

When the baby is hurt, parents can use a towel dipped in cold water or an ice pack wrapped in a towel and apply it to the injured area. Cold compress can relieve pain and help stop subcutaneous bleeding quickly.

2. Hot compress

After 24 hours of bruising, you can apply warm compresses to the affected area. It can promote local blood circulation and promote the dissipation of blood stasis. Generally, the body will slowly absorb the subcutaneous blood clots, which takes about two weeks.

3. Vinegar compress

If the bruise lasts for more than 3 days, you can apply a towel soaked in hot water or hot vinegar to the injured area, changing it every 5 to 10 minutes. Do it 1 to 2 times a day, each time for about 30 minutes. Improves blood and lymph circulation in the injured area and helps absorb blood stasis and exudate in the injured area.

Precautions when applying ice

1. Do not leave the ice pack directly on the baby's skin for too long. Generally, change the position after about 20 minutes. Avoid overstimulation of your baby;

2. If the baby's bruises are large, do not use ice compresses to prevent aggravating microcirculation disorders and causing tissue necrosis;

3. If the injured part is behind the head, auricle, scrotum, etc. Do not use cold compresses to prevent frostbite; cold compresses should also not be applied to the baby's abdomen to prevent intestinal cramps or diarrhea.

Basic treatment of baby injuries

1. Abrasions caused by wrestling

Abrasions often occur when children fall, and some may cause slight bleeding. Children's abrasions often occur on the knees or elbows. If the baby's injured part is dirty, it should be rinsed with clean water as soon as possible. If you have iodine at home, you can use it for disinfection. Note that it is iodine tincture, not iodine solution or alcohol, as it will cause stinging. If the bleeding is difficult to stop, or if there are signs of infection such as suppuration due to improper treatment, you need to seek medical attention immediately.

2. Injury caused by sharp objects

Children are often very curious, especially babies who can already walk, who tend to reach for objects placed high up by adults. Or touching things around the house. Some of them will be pricked by sharp corners, especially some pen tips, metal decorations at home, etc.

Wounds caused by sharp objects are most susceptible to infection because they are small and deep and do not bleed too much. If a child is pricked, wash with clean water at an appropriate temperature. If the baby has not received the DTP vaccine, and if the wound is indeed deep, it is necessary to give the baby a tetanus vaccine depending on the situation.
