Baby's belly is hard and swollen?

Newborns usually undergo various physical examinations after birth to determine whether the baby is healthy. Generally, babies need to have a physical examination every month before they are six months old to observe whether the baby's development is healthy. When mothers are taking care of their babies, they also need to carefully observe whether there are any abnormalities in the baby's body parts. If any problems are found, they must take the baby to a regular hospital for examination and treatment in time. What's going on with the baby's hard, swollen belly?

A baby's belly will naturally look more bloated than that of an adult's, because the abdominal wall muscles of a newborn are not yet fully developed, but have to accommodate the same number of internal organs as an adult. When the abdominal muscles do not have enough strength to bear the burden, the abdomen will appear more prominent. So when you touch the baby's belly, it will feel bulging or hard. As the baby grows and the abdominal muscles develop, the abdomen will gradually become flat.

If your baby's belly is very swollen and feels hard, and he or she appears to be very uncomfortable, and is usually vomiting or wheezing, you should be alert and seek medical attention promptly.

If you encounter abdominal distension in the following situations, parents should pay special attention and take their baby to the doctor for examination and treatment as soon as possible:

1. The baby has abdominal distension accompanied by vomiting, poor appetite (less than half of the usual amount and getting less and less), anemia, weight loss, and even fever and bloody stools.

2. Do not touch the belly at all. The baby will feel pain or cry if you touch it.

3. Combined with shortness of breath.

4. A hard lump-like object can be felt in the abdomen.

Although most bloating may be functional and not necessarily dangerous. However, if not treated, it will affect the baby's appetite, mood, and even its development. Especially for organic ones (intestinal obstruction, tumors, congenital megacolon, etc.), they cannot be ignored, so as not to miss the opportunity for early treatment.

What to do if a one-month-old baby has a hard stomach

1. If the hard stomach is caused by indigestion, you should take appropriate measures and feed your baby some intestinal probiotics for conditioning. For example, Mami Love or Bifidobacterium, etc., you can consult your doctor for specific usage and dosage.

2. If the newborn's stomach becomes hard due to megacolon, the baby must be taken to the hospital for treatment to prevent it from deteriorating into acute intestinal obstruction, which will cause greater pain to the baby and family.

First, we need to determine the reason why the baby's stomach is hard. If it is caused by indigestion, you can adjust the diet. If it is pathological, mothers need to pay attention. The hard stomach caused by megacolon must be treated in the hospital to avoid deterioration and causing unnecessary harm to the baby.
