How to solve the problem of baby not eating nipples

In fact, parents will face many troubles when it comes to baby feeding, such as the problem of baby refusing to eat nipples. As we all know, breastfeeding can better provide the baby with the nutrients needed by the body and improve his body's immunity. So when the baby refuses to eat nipples, parents should also pay attention to helping the baby solve the problem correctly and not take coercive measures.

This situation is called "nipple illusion" because the rubber nipple on the bottle is long and the nipple opening is large, so the baby can suck milk easily without much effort. When they suck their mother's nipples again, they will find it difficult to hold on and sucking is also very strenuous, so they are unwilling to drink their mother's milk anymore. It is difficult to correct the baby's "nipple illusion", and one of the keys lies in the mother's patience and perseverance.

First, stop giving your baby a pacifier immediately. Even if you need to feed your baby expressed breast milk, do not use a pacifier. Instead, use other methods, such as a small spoon, syringe, medicine feeder, etc.

Secondly, patiently and tirelessly help your baby learn the correct breastfeeding posture, so that the baby's face is facing the nipple (no need to twist the neck), the head, shoulders and hips form a straight line, and the baby is held comfortably in the mother's arms. Use the nipple to lure your baby to open his mouth wide. Once his mouth is open, let the nipple go straight in and get behind his tongue. Your baby's nose should be slightly pressed against the upper side of your breast, and your lower lip should be mostly covering the areola. If this doesn't work, disconnect and try again.

It is best to keep your baby in your arms most of the time, give him the nipple whenever possible, and feed him when he is in a good mood and not too hungry. Generally, babies with nipple illusion are unwilling to wait for the milk to be secreted. You can squeeze your breasts before feeding, and then give the baby the nipple after the milk "comes down". This way, the baby does not have to wait, and the milk can be secreted immediately. You can also ask the nanny or family member to drip some pre-expressed milk on the breast when the baby starts sucking, and let it flow down the breast into the baby's mouth to give the baby some "reward".

Don't deliberately starve your baby, thinking that he will feed when he is extremely hungry. This can make him weak and even cause dehydration. Even if the baby has severe nipple illusion and firmly resists the nipple, the extreme measures that need to be taken are: on the first day, do not give the baby a pacifier or nipple, and use other methods to feed the baby with expressed milk; on the second day, do not give the baby a pacifier, use the nipple to comfort the baby, and also use other methods to feed the baby with milk; on the third day, feed the baby exclusively with the nipple, and feed before the baby is hungry.

The above are some solutions to the problem that babies don’t like to suck nipples. After these introductions, every parent should pay attention when facing this situation, because we all know that after all, this is related to the baby’s healthy growth and various physical development problems, so you must feed correctly.
