How does amblyopia develop in children?

If your baby has amblyopia, it will pose a great threat to the healthy growth of the child. To get rid of the threat of the disease, you need targeted treatment. The key to treatment is not only to choose the right method, but also to find the cause. Targeted treatment is the key! To treat amblyopia, you must know the cause. Here I will tell you how amblyopia is formed in children. I hope it will help treat amblyopia!

The causes of amblyopia are as follows:

1. Form deprivation amblyopia: In infancy, if there is corneal opacity, ptosis, congenital cataract, or even improper covering of one eye, the cause of amblyopia is that light cannot fully enter the eye, depriving the macula of the eye of the opportunity to receive normal light stimulation, the development of visual function is inhibited and amblyopia occurs. This type of amblyopia not only results in low vision, but also has a poor prognosis.

2. Patients with strabismic amblyopia have strabismus or have had strabismus in the past. The cause of amblyopia is diplopia due to the deviation of eye position. In order to eliminate or overcome the diplopia caused by strabismus, the visual cortex center of the cerebral cortex inhibits the visual impulses transmitted by the strabismic eye. The macular function of the strabismic eye is suppressed for a long time, resulting in amblyopia. This is one of the main causes of amblyopia. This amblyopia is the consequence of strabismus and is secondary and functional. Therefore, if it is treated appropriately in the early stages, the vision of the amblyopic eye can be improved. However, there are a few stubborn cases where vision does not improve much despite long-term treatment.

3. The pathogenesis of congenital amblyopia is not very clear at present. The cause of amblyopia may be due to small hemorrhages in the retina or visual pathway after birth, which affects the normal development of visual function. Some are secondary to nystagmus and achromatopsia. This type of amblyopia has a poor prognosis.

4. Refractive amblyopia usually occurs bilaterally. For people with high refractive errors who have never worn corrective glasses, their vision can gradually improve after wearing appropriate glasses, but it takes a long time, usually 2 to 3 years.

5. Anisometropic amblyopia is caused by the large difference in refractive power between the two eyes. The cause of amblyopia is that the images formed by the macula of the two eyes are of different clarity or too different in size, making fusion difficult. The cerebral cortical center can only suppress the images from the eye with larger refractive error, and amblyopia occurs over time. This type of amblyopia is functional and may restore vision with treatment, and it may be prevented if the refractive error is corrected early.

To treat amblyopia, you must choose regular and effective treatment methods!
