What to do when your child has a toothache?

Nowadays, many parents are more concerned about their baby's physical health. In addition to illness, the body must also experience some pain during the growth and development process. As the child grows older, long-term consumption of sugar and snacks and lack of attention to diet will cause damage to the child's teeth and toothache over time. In this case, you need to go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible.

Causes of toothache in children

One is trauma. It is common for children to accidentally fall and injure their teeth. Sometimes they bite on gravel or bones while eating, causing traumatic apical periodontitis and pain. If the tooth is only slightly loose, do not ignore it. Be sure to go to the hospital for examination first and take X-rays if necessary. Check whether the tooth root is broken; if the tooth is broken, you need to ask the doctor to extract the exposed dental nerve under anesthesia and then fill the tooth or extract it.

Second , the toothache does not occur when I eat, but it does occur when I eat. The pain is especially aggravated when I eat cold or hot food. This usually means there are deep cavities on the teeth and you must go to the dentist for treatment. If the hole is shallow, just fill it. If the hole is serious, the dental nerve needs to be deactivated before filling.

Third , the toothache presents paroxysmal severe pain without any inducement. The child will cry in waves even if he does not eat. He often feels pain in one side of the teeth, but cannot point out which specific tooth hurts. The pain worsens at night, and the child often cries all night and refuses to lie down. This is a typical inflammation of the dental pulp nerve. If this happens, you should immediately take your child to the dental department and have the doctor use a dental drill to grind the tooth open and apply some anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs to relieve the pain immediately. However, after the tooth pain stops, it still needs to be devitalized and filled, which requires multiple visits to the doctor for treatment.

The fourth situation is that the child has persistent toothache. If not treated, the pain will gradually worsen day by day, and the gums will become red and swollen, the teeth will float, and in severe cases, the face will also be swollen, the submandibular lymph nodes will also be swollen, and fever symptoms will appear. This is an inflammation around the root apex, which sometimes develops into a purulent inflammation. In this case, the doctor must drill the affected tooth to drain the pus, take antibiotics orally or intramuscularly, and change the dressings repeatedly until the inflammation is completely eliminated before the tooth can be filled.

The above is an introduction to the various causes of children's toothache. In summary, there are many reasons that cause children's toothache, and the symptoms vary in severity. Therefore, children should not be given medicine indiscriminately without a confirmed diagnosis. One reason is that children's physiques are different from adults, and some medicines may not be suitable for children. Another reason is that without a detailed diagnosis by a doctor, the specific type of child's toothache cannot be determined, and inappropriate medicine will only delay the disease.
