Can children wash their hair when they have a cold or fever?

Because colds are very common, many people don't care much about the impact of colds. This is not impossible. After all, human resistance is much stronger than before, but it is only limited to adults. If a child has a cold, the symptoms require special treatment and good care from the parents. For example, if a child has a cold and a fever, can he wash his hair at this time?

Colds and fevers in children are common diseases in pediatric internal medicine. Most cold patients do not have high fever or systemic symptoms, but only have low fever, headache, discomfort and other feelings. Children's colds and fevers are both beneficial and harmful to the human body. When they have a fever, the body's immune function is significantly enhanced, which is beneficial to eliminating pathogens and promoting recovery from the disease.

Do not wash your baby's hair when he has a fever. Give your baby more water to drink and pay attention to monitoring his body temperature. If the temperature does not exceed 38.5 degrees, you can wipe the body with warm water (i.e. physical cooling). If it exceeds this, physical cooling is required and you need to take medicine or apply a fever-reducing patch. Don't cover it too much, as it will be detrimental to heat dissipation. Your gastrointestinal function will be weak during illness, so don't force yourself to eat if you don't want to.

However, some people think that washing the baby’s hair is appropriate when the baby has a cold or fever, and that washing the hair can also be considered a physical way to reduce the temperature. When a baby has a fever, washing his hair and taking a bath can help reduce the temperature. Generally, when a baby's fever is below 38.5℃, there is no need for antipyretic treatment. Physical cooling should be used. If the temperature is above 38.5℃, appropriate antipyretic measures should be taken with medication.

Washing the baby's hair and taking a bath can help lower the baby's body temperature, but you should pay attention to the temperature of the bath. It is recommended that the indoor temperature for bathing be kept at 26-28 degrees, and the water temperature for bathing be kept at around 37 degrees, which can dilate the blood vessels in the baby's skin and dissipate the body's qi. In addition, when water vapor evaporates from the body surface, it also absorbs body heat. It is best to control the bathing time within 10 minutes. After bathing, dry the baby's hair and put on clothes in time.

How to care for your baby with cold and fever

1. Rest. Increase rest time and ensure that children get enough sleep to enhance their disease resistance.

2. Observe body temperature. If the child's body temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees Celsius, it means the child has a fever and physical cooling (warm water bath) or drug cooling should be performed immediately (preferably under the guidance of a doctor).

3. Diet. Children with colds often have poor appetite, so parents can arrange feeding time when the body temperature is close to normal after the fever subsides and give the children light, easily digestible food. A reasonable diet should not only pay attention to the dietary structure, matching staple and non-staple food, coarse and fine grains, and meat and vegetables, but also cultivate children's good eating habits.

4. Replenish water. Especially when the fever is high, you should eat more to replenish the loss of water.

5. Clothing and bedding should be appropriate. Do not overdress or cover your child too much when he or she has a high fever, because on the one hand it will not dissipate heat easily and cause the body temperature to rise, and on the other hand it will make the child sweat too much and cause water loss. The correct approach is not to wear too many clothes when you have a fever. You should take off some clothes when you go to bed to avoid catching a cold after getting up. You can cover yourself with a little more quilt than usual, but you should reduce it in time after sweating.

6. Keep bowel movements smooth. Keeping bowel movements regular helps your child's body temperature return to normal. If a child is constipated, parents can use ketamine to relieve the symptoms.
