2. Foreign bodies in the nose mostly occur in children between the ages of 2 and 4. Because children are ignorant, they will stuff small objects such as beans, paper balls, buttons, etc. into their nasal cavities. Over time, the foreign bodies will rot or irritate the nasal mucosa, causing congestion and edema of the nasal mucosa. Coupled with bacterial infection, the secretions will become purulent, bloody, and emit a fishy smell. Severe foreign objects in the nasal cavity can cause perforation and necrosis of the nasal septum. What is even more dangerous is that the foreign objects can fall into the throat, trachea, and bronchi through the posterior nasal cavity, causing lung infection, or blocking the trachea and causing suffocation and death.

3. A normal person's snot is colorless, transparent, and slightly sticky. A fishy smell in the snot is often a symptom of foreign matter in the nasal cavity. When young parents find that one side of their child's nasal cavity is blocked and has foul-smelling snot, they should consider the possibility of foreign matter in the nasal cavity and immediately take the child to a hospital specialist for further examination. Be careful not to use your hands or tweezers to pick up foreign objects, as this may cause the foreign objects to sink deeper into the nose and become difficult to remove. It can also easily damage the child's nasal mucosa, causing bleeding or inflammation.

Smooth foreign objects can fall out by themselves

The secretions in the nasal cavity are slippery and can play a certain lubricating role. Moreover, foreign objects that have just entered are generally not too deep, and are all in the position of the nasal cartilage. If the surface of the foreign object is smooth, it is not difficult to let it fall out by itself.

It is recommended that when a foreign object first enters the baby's nasal cavity, parents should not be nervous but observe first. If the foreign body only blocks one side of the nose, it will not cause any problem for the time being, it will just be a blocked nose. The baby's discomfort is relatively mild, so there is no need to rush to deal with it. Observe whether the foreign body can fall out by itself. You can try blocking the nostril that is not blocked by the foreign body and let the baby blow his nose hard to see if the foreign body can be blown out.

Foreign objects that cannot fall out on their own should be removed by a doctor

If a foreign object enters the nasal cavity and cannot fall out on its own, you should take your baby to the hospital and ask a doctor for help. Although doctors also use tweezers to remove foreign objects, they have received professional training and can use the squeezing method to push the tweezers deep into the back of the foreign object to bring it out. If it cannot go deep, you can also send the foreign body to the throat in a special position and let the baby spit it out. The movements are quick and accurate without causing any harm to the baby.
