Why does my child keep rubbing his eyes?

Why does my child keep rubbing his eyes?

Many parents have reported that their children have a lot of small movements in their daily lives, scratching their ears or snapping their fingers, in short, they are always busy. Of course, we do not rule out the factor that children are naturally lively, but sometimes children’s small movements can really reveal a lot, such as whether they are sick. So, what should you do if your child keeps rubbing his eyes?

1. Feeling sleepy

Being sleepy is indeed a major reason why babies often rub their eyes. Many babies rub their eyes when they are sleepy, but not very frequently, and they also yawn and do other sleepiness behaviors. This action will disappear automatically after waking up.

2. Eye diseases

Babies are active by nature and do not know how to protect themselves. In addition, their immunity has not yet been fully established, so they are easily exposed to bacteria or infected. If your baby likes to rub his eyes, you cannot rule out the possibility of eye infection or inflammation, because he will rub his eyes constantly because it will itch. In addition, you can also use this phenomenon to determine whether your baby has an eye disease: when there is inflammation in the eye, the white of the eye will appear pink and the secretions will increase. In this case, consider taking your baby to the hospital.

3. Myopia

Nowadays, many parents like to give their babies a mobile phone or pad and let them play by themselves, which increases the possibility of their babies suffering from myopia. When babies have trouble seeing distant objects due to early myopia, they tend to rub their eyes subconsciously. This action allows them to see objects more clearly. You can also pay attention to your baby's usual eye behavior, such as whether he likes to hold toys close to his eyes or always wants to get close to the TV. If such problems occur, you need to take your baby to check his eyesight.

4. There is foreign matter

When dust or tiny particles fall into the baby's eyes, he will keep rubbing his eyes, because foreign objects entering the eyes will cause discomfort. The mother can wash her hands first, gently pinch the baby's upper eyelid with the thumb and index finger, lift it forward, and then blow gently into the baby's eyes to stimulate the eyes to secrete tears and flush out foreign objects. Pay attention to the baby's eye hygiene.
