What to do if your newborn hiccups

What to do if your newborn hiccups

For many new parents, the arrival of a baby often catches them off guard. Generally speaking, some newborns will have hiccups (which we usually call burps), which will make them at a loss. Hiccups are actually a common phenomenon among babies. Although adults may feel very uncomfortable when they hiccup, hiccups in babies are not as uncomfortable as we imagine.

Hiccups can occur when babies feed too quickly or breathe in cold air. This is a normal self-limiting behavior. It does not cause much harm to the baby and will generally stop on its own after a period of time. In addition, there are some methods that can help your baby get rid of hiccups as soon as possible.

1. Pumping milk. Let your baby naturally suck a few sips of your mother's milk, and the hiccups will stop soon.

2. Drink warm water. Picking up your baby, patting his back, and then giving him some warm water may also stop the hiccups.

3. Stimulate the soles of the feet. You can tap the soles of the baby's feet with your fingers. As long as the baby cries, the hiccups will stop after a while.

4. Transfer method. Divert your baby's attention by playing with toys, listening to music, etc.

In addition, during the feeding process, pay attention to the posture of holding the baby and the gesture of holding the bottle, and try to prevent the baby from inhaling too much air. After feeding, hold your baby upright and gently pat his back to help expel air. These can effectively prevent your baby from hiccups.

For many parents, they also need to take good care of their babies to reduce the inhalation of air when eating so as to reduce the phenomenon of hiccups in babies. If hiccups occur, you can use the above methods to relieve the hiccups of your baby, which can also relieve some of the worries of the baby's parents.
