Why does my baby always squint his eyes?

When parents are taking care of their babies, they should pay attention to observe the baby's growth and health conditions. Some parents will find that their babies often squint. At this time, they should pay attention to whether the baby has astigmatism. If astigmatism, it will easily cause the baby to squint and reduce vision. It is also the most common cause of poor vision in young children. It is a congenital variation problem. It is recommended that parents should take their children to outdoor activities more often and rarely let their children spend time in front of the TV or computer.

1. Children who like to squint may have astigmatism. Children with astigmatism have decreased vision and see blurry images whether they are looking at far or near objects. They often squint their eyelids into a slit in an attempt to see objects clearly. If the child reacts slower than other children of the same age in normal exercises such as catching a ball, likes to squint, look at things sideways or with the head tilted, or looks up with the face lowered, parents should be alert and it is best to take the child to the hospital for a specialist examination.

2. In fact, astigmatism is also one of the common causes of poor vision in young children. Astigmatism is a congenital variation, which may be related to the asymmetrical development of the eyeball caused by consuming more artificial food, organic pesticides or harmful gases during pregnancy. It can be simply seen as the "black eyeball" is not round but oval, and the astigmatism eye can be figuratively likened to a "rugby ball shape". Astigmatism of more than 150 degrees may cause amblyopia.

3. Astigmatism has a high incidence rate in infants and young children. As vision develops, changes in astigmatism require timely intervention, otherwise it may worsen and vision may not develop well. As children grow older, if astigmatism is not corrected, they may experience visual fatigue, abnormal head position, tilted head, or looking down at the TV. This may further develop into myopia, amblyopia, and strabismus, which will endanger their vision health.

4. Increase the outdoor activity time of preschool children and reduce the time of close-range eye use. It is necessary to take the children to a regular medical institution's eye care or ophthalmology clinic for a routine check-up every six months.
