What are the precautions for baby deworming?

Many people may have had deworming when they were young. The so-called deworming actually refers to removing the roundworms in the stomach. Ascaris is a parasite that may cause abdominal pain and other conditions in the stomach, so it is important to deworm your baby regularly. Generally speaking, deworming is done with drugs, but there are also many precautions. If not used properly, there are still many disadvantages, especially for the baby's body, which is weaker. Using the wrong medicine can cause serious consequences.

1. Diagnosis

Before anthelmintic treatment, first make a clear diagnosis and choose the medication according to the characteristics of the parasites.

2. Eat on an empty stomach

In order to allow the medicine to fully contact the insect body, it is best to take it on an empty stomach. At the same time, you should not take anti-inflammatory drugs. Anthelmintics contain toxins, which may cause chemical reactions when combined with anti-inflammatory drugs, which is harmful to your health.

3. Drink more water.

Water and plant fiber can enhance intestinal peristalsis, promote defecation, and promptly excrete the insects killed or paralyzed by drugs along with the feces. Foods high in fiber include cereals, nuts, fresh vegetables and fruits. Eat less fatty foods. Because anthelmintics are mostly fat-soluble drugs, if you consume too much food with high fat content, it can cause the anthelmintics to be absorbed into the body, which not only increases their toxicity to the human body but also reduces their efficacy.

4. Anthelmintics themselves have no cathartic effect

In addition, children have weak intestinal motility, which is not conducive to the excretion of poisoned insects and residual drugs. Therefore, according to the age and physical strength of the child, some laxatives should be taken a few hours after taking the medicine. However, it should be noted that if diarrhea occurs, the medicine should be stopped immediately.

5. Most anthelmintics need to be metabolized by the liver

For children over two years old, the liver is fully developed and appropriate use of medication will not cause adverse reactions. However, the liver of children under two years old is still developing. A substance called mebendazole contained in anthelmintics can cause liver damage to children, so it must be used with caution.

6. Some parasitic diseases cannot be treated simply by taking medicine

As pinworms often lay eggs around the anus or in the rectum, parents can use a flashlight to shine on their child's anus at 11 or 12 o'clock every night. If white adult worms or eggs are seen, they can be wiped off with a cotton swab. Do this for a few days in a row. You do not need to take medicine, but can use the Chinese medicine Baibu decoction for external washing. Some parents, upon noticing that their children are sallow and thin and have a poor appetite, assume that they have worms without checking. They blindly give their children anthelmintics, and when the worms are not expelled, they give them again, thus affecting the children's health. In fact, anthelmintics can only be given to children when the stool is checked to confirm the presence of worm eggs. Generally, the medicine is only taken once and cannot be taken continuously.
